The Internet is buzzing over actress Issa Rae‘s complaint about being forced to go outside against her will.

Despite her success and many achievements, Issa Rae is a homebody.

The Dictionary defines “Homebody” as:

    1. One whose interests center on the home.

    2. A person who seldom goes anywhere; one not given to wandering the streets.

    3. A person who enjoys the warmth and simple pleasures of being at home.

The stress is etched on Issa Rae’s face as she explains in a video how she’s being forced to go outside.

“Today I’m being pressured, forced to go outside against my will,” she says. “I am required to do my hair, I am required to put on a face, and I am required to have good spirits about it. It just doesn’t sit right with me.”

She concludes her video by saying, “Stop forcing your friends to go outside.”

Your auntie feels Issa Rae’s pain.

Not a week goes by without friends pressuring me to hang out in the streets with them.

They don’t care that I work from home and I can’t just drop what I’m doing to accommodate their wanderlusts.

The worst offender is that “friend” who insults me for choosing to stay home.

Contrary to popular belief, homebodies do go outside.

We go to the bank, grocery shopping, to retail stores, doctor’s appointments, etc.

We’re not shut-ins; we do have a busy life. We just don’t want to “hang out” doing unproductive things in the streets.

It’s not about being unable to make a decision. We’ve made our decision — to stay home!

Kudos to Issa Rae for speaking out for us fellow homebodies who choose not to run the streets.
