London-based BBC News has apologized for using a photo of Oscar winner Viola Davis in a story about American singer Beyonce.

The mix-up occurred on Sunday when the BBC used a photo of Davis, 57, alongside the headline “Beyonce’s big night.”

Beyonce’s furious fans took to social media to slam the news network for the unfortunate error.

BBC News’ press team apologized in a tweet on Monday, saying the error fell below the network’s usual standards.

“We apologize for the mistake last night when our news channels briefly showed a photograph of Viola Davis from January’s Golden Globes alongside a headline about Beyoncé at yesterday’s Grammys. This fell below the BBC’s usual standards.”

It’s hard to understand how the error occurred in the first place. Even though the two women are close in age, they look nothing alike.
