It is policy for small airlines to weigh obese passengers to ensure the safety of the other passengers. But social media users are up in arms over a viral photo of a Black woman being weighed on a baggage scale at an airport.
TikTok users wondered if it’s standard policy to weigh humans on baggage scales.
A traveler snapped a photo of the humiliating moment and uploaded it on TikTok.
“The whole airport trying to mind their own business as a woman is asked to step on the baggage scale because she claimed she was 130lbs,” TikTok user @lilwessel wrote in the caption of the now-deleted post.
In a five-second video, the female passenger is seen standing on the baggage scale while others look on.
Some TikTok users blamed the passenger for trying to be secretive about her weight.
“Why would she lie and risk all our lives including hers,” asked one TikTok user.
Another person wrote: “Does she not know she can write it down on a sheet of paper if she doesn’t want to announce it?”
A third person recalled a similar embarrassing experience: “Flying home from the Philippines and they weighed me … I have never been so embarrassed in my life.”
