Today, we remember and honor military veterans who gave their lives in service to this country.

Memorial Day “is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle.”

We also give thanks to family members, friends and retired military veterans who are still among us.

The following are Memorial Day events going on in and around Atlanta, including laying of wreaths, flag placements, and commemoration services all taking place today, May 29.

10-11 a.m. at Brook Run Park, 4770 N. Peachtree Road, Dunwoody.

11 a.m. at Roswell City Hall, 38 Hill St. Roswell.

11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Thrasher Park, 93 Park Drive, Norcross.

12 Noon at Marietta National Cemetery, 500 Washington Avenue NE, Marietta.

Stone Mountain Park, Robert E. Lee Blvd., will host events all day Monday, including performances by the Air National Guard Band of the South; a drone and light show at 9:30 p.m., and an exclusive salute to the troops and fireworks finale.

Active duty, veterans and retired military personnel will receive one free admission ticket and discounts for additional tickets. Prices vary.
