Janelle Monáe credits her “crush,” actress Nia Long, with giving her the confidence to free her nipples.
Janelle collaborated with Nia, Grace Jones, Doechii, and others for her long-awaited album The Age of Pleasure which dropped on June 9.
The Age of Pleasure features her singles “Float” and “Lipstick Lover,” along with 12 other tracks.
The 37-year-old songstress surprised her fans by going topless on the cover of Rolling Stone and wearing a wet T-shirt in a promo video.
She said she’s “much happier” when her breasts are out.

In a recent interview on “Sway in the Morning,” Janelle explained the inspiration behind her newfound freedom:
“I just have to thank Nia Long because I showed Nia Long my press photos before I put them out… and I showed her the part where I come out the water in the wet T-shirt — which is an ode to the Jamaica poster… and I showed her that, and she was like, ‘That’s it. You got some pretty titties.'”
Janelle said Nia Long “gave me my confidence to just free my nipples. When you get that sort of compliment from your crush, you know, it’s another thing.”
