South Fulton Mayor Khalid Kamau was arrested Saturday morning (July 8) on felony burglary and trespassing charges, NBC affiliate WXIA reports.
The socialist mayor allegedly broke into his “dream” lake house and was held at gunpoint by the homeowner until police arrived.
“Do you know who the f**k I am?,” Kamau asked the frightened homeowner. “I’m the mayor, and I’ll wait for my police to get here and see what happens then.”
When police arrived, Kamau calmly told them he was on his way to a dog park when he stopped to admire his “dream” lake house that he hoped to purchase.
The lake house is not on the market.
The mayor admitted to police that he knew he was trespassing. He said he thought the lake house “was abandoned.”
Kamau, a Democrat, was charged with first-degree felony burglary and trespassing. Police did not clarify what he’s accused of stealing. Kamau was released from jail on $11,000 bond.
“I do want to thank the South Fulton police and the staff of officers for their courteous and professional service throughout the day,” he told reporters outside the Fulton County Jail.
South Fulton is a city in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
Georgia City councilwoman Natasha Williams-Brown will act as South Fulton mayor temporarily.
City officials said an investigation is ongoing.
