Speculation is running rampant on the Internet after Jeezy filed for divorce from TV host Jeannie Mai.
A source tells ET that the rapper, whose real name is Jay Wayne Jenkins, and the former co-host of “The Real” had different opinions when it came to “certain family values and expectations.”
“They had different views, and each felt like their needs weren’t being completely met,” the source told ET.
According to court documents obtained by ET, Jeezy filed for divorce on Sept. 14 in Fulton County Superior Court. He said they are separated, the marriage is “irretrievably broken,” and “there is no hope for reconciliation.” Jeezy is also asking for joint legal custody of their daughter and no spousal support.
Other sources claim Jeezy filed for divorce because his wife was overbearing and had anger issues.
Jeannie admits she didn’t realize she had anger issues until she got with Jeezy.
In a 2021 episode of the “Lovers and Friends” podcast, Jeannie said, “I didn’t notice that I had a hot temper until I got with Jeezy.”
She said Jeezy called her out on her anger issues, but he never tried to correct her.
“Here’s a person who is my equal and I really respect, and when I would spew some of my old habits, and he was like ‘Uh uh! That’s not flying here.’ And also it would trigger him to come back at me with things where I was like, ‘Who the f*** do you think you are?'”
Jeannie blamed Jeezy for not telling her to fix her temper.
“But this was something greater that I wanted. And also a great challenge to myself to say what if – now that I know [my temper] exists and the dragon’s there – what if I got rid of that? How do I kill that dragon or store it in its place so that it never creates havoc in my life?”
Jeezy, 45, and Jeannie, 44, were engaged in April 2020 and tied the knot at their Atlanta home in March 2021.
Problems surfaced shortly after the couple welcomed their daughter, Monaco Mai Jenkins, in January 2022.
Jeezy reportedly complained to friends that Jeannie insisted that he learn her culture while deflecting his attempts to teach her the Black culture.
Others close to Jeezy say he loves soul food, but Jeannie resisted his requests to make his favorite soul food dishes.
In one Instagram photo, Jeezy expresses dissatisfaction while eating a bowl of roasted zucchini without meat or cornbread.
The user captioned the photo: “This had to be the last straw.”
Jeannie often cooked her native Vietnamese dishes, including banh cuon, which she described as “like a bear hug from a marshmallow.”
“They’re filled with the most delicious savory filling & comes with a sidekick of fresh herbs, crispy bean sprouts, and a dipping sauce so tasty,” she wrote in a video caption on Instagram.
Despite filing for divorce, Jeezy is still wearing his wedding ring in photos he shared on his Instagram page on Sept. 14.
Jeezy is also father to three grown children Jadarius, Shyheim and Amra from previous relationships.
