If you’re a Georgia resident, medical marijuana will soon be available for purchase in your local CVS or Walmart pharmacies.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Georgia is the first state in the nation to offer marijuana products at independent pharmacies.
This is good news for marijuana smokers who prefer to eliminate the middle man and buy quality weed from a licensed source.
The Georgia State Board of Pharmacy began accepting applications this week, and nearly 120 pharmacies have agreed to provide low-THC oil and cannabis from Botanical Sciences, one of the state’s two licensed growers.
About 90% of Georgia’s population will be within a 30-minute drive of a pharmacy selling medical marijuana, according to Botanical Sciences.
Medical marijuana is only available to Georgians with a prescription from a physician approving the medicine to treat severe illnesses. Low-THC oil can contain no more than 5% THC, which gives users a high.
Gov. Brian Kemp approved the rules last month. Just 16,000 patients are currently signed up to buy medical marijuana in Georgia.
