Tyrese Gibson defended his recent luxury vacation to Dubai, despite owing child support to his ex-wife Samantha Lee.
The R&B singer-turned actor complained that he can’t afford his court-ordered $10,000 per month child support payments because his income had dropped drastically.
Samantha wants a judge to hold the 45-year-old “Fast & Furious” star in contempt of court until he coughs up the money he owes her.
Tyrese and Samantha married in 2017 and divorced in 2020. They share a daughter named Soraya, who was born in 2018.
According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, Tyrese asked a judge to give him a break because he’s broke.
Samantha said Tyrese owes her thousands of dollars and he only paid her half of what he owes in December 2023 and January 2024.
In response, Tyrese acknowledges that he fell behind in his payments, but he said movie roles are drying up.
Tyrese defended his recent luxury vacations, including a trip to Dubai with his current girlfriend Zelie to celebrate his 45th birthday.
They also traveled to Egypt during that time.
His lawyer explained, “[Tyrese] utilized his frequent flyer miles to visit and stay with a friend in a foreign country.” The lawyer claimed the plane tickets were free, and that “[Tyrese] was hosted by his good friend during his trip outside of the U.S.”
A judge has yet to rule on the matter.
