A Vogue magazine director roasted Cardi B on X/Twitter for forgetting the name of the designer who spent 2 months making her gown for the 2024 Met Gala.
Vogue Director Gilbert Cheah criticized Cardi B for forgetting the name of her designer when a reporter asked who made her dress.
“I feel amazing. This is an amazing designer. They’re Asian and everything. So, yeah,” the rapper responded.
Cheah wrote:
“For the record and recognition, and no thanks to Cardii B, the designer of her gown is Sensen Lii who’s Chinese. The gown took two months to make. I personally think it’s boring and not even on theme but she chose it and should have at least remembered his name and not just that he’s “Asian.”
cardi b not remembering the designer who spent 3 months making her met gala dress and just referring to him as "asian" is just sad and disrespectful… pic.twitter.com/GQksGQYPCX

Most designers work for free because the media exposure at the Met Gala is priceless.
But, even though she didn’t pay for her gown, Cardi B couldn’t be bothered to remember the designer’s name.
Rather than do the classy thing and apologize, Cardi B disrespected Cheah, telling him not to get his “Speedos in a bunch.”
“I had a lot of things on my mind, and I was being rushed to the front of the line,” Cardi explained in a video. “When I was getting interviewed, I kinda forgot to pronounce the designer’s name. His name is a little bit complicated… I said ‘Asian’ designer because I didn’t want to be offensive if I said Chinese. It just proves why you’re the former director… You’re trying to offend me but you’re actually offending the people behind the scenes…”

One X/Twitter user suggested that Cardi B is a culture vulture:
“The truth is, just like in Hip Hop, you have absolutely no care for the culture and the hard work ppl put into their craft as your only concern is to hijack the culture and make it benefit you then advancing to cheapening the brand.”
