Update: The Los Angeles Lakers selected Bronny James with the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA draft on Thursday.
Bronny, 19, is the eldest son of Lakers star LeBron James, 39.
The Lakers made history by having a father and son duo on the same team at the same time.
The NBA’s all-time leading scorer has said it was his dream was to play in the NBA with one of his sons.
Bronny played only 25 games for the University of Southern California. He was sidelined at the start of the season after suffering a cardiac arrest during practice in July 2023.
The 6′ 2″ guard came off the bench for USC, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in his freshman year.
On April 5, 2024, Bronny announced on Instagram that he would enter the 2024 NBA draft after also entering the transfer portal.
A team of doctors cleared him to play in the NBA, despite his congenital heart defect diagnosis.
Other NBA players have joined the league after their fathers played, but none played at the same time.
