A new restaurant in St. Louis, Missouri is making headlines for its minimum age requirement. Bliss upscale Caribbean restaurant set a minimum age to keep the riffraff out.
Women must be at least 30, and men must be at least 35.
Everyone who enters the restaurant must show their ID to the hostess at the door or an off-duty police officer.
The restaurant’s owner Marvin Pate, 36, says he hopes to maintain a “sophisticated environment” blocking access to the “young folks who bring some of that drama.”
The restaurant created the policy to help them “maintain a sophisticated environment, uphold our standards, and support the sustainability of our unique ambiance,” according to the restaurant’s Facebook post.
“The restaurant is just something for the older people to come do, have a happy hour, come get some good food and not have to worry about some of the young folks who bring some of that drama,” assistant Manager Erica Rhodes told KSDK News.
The age requirements created a buzz on social media.
Some people said the age requirements are too low. Others say some 30 year olds are immature.
“Wait until you realize some ppl in their 30s are in a second childhood,” wrote one X/Twitter user.
The only thing throwing me off is that the age requirement is different for men and women. Either make it 30 for both or 35 for both. We have to stop reinforcing the myth that men mature slower.

Age ? maturity (meaning it’s a lot of 30+ adults that still act childish or immature)
