Zendaya spoke with Vogue Paris about her partnership with the Swizz athletic brand On and her crippling anxiety.

The 27-year-old actress was introduced to the brand by Challengers costume designer Jonathan Anderson and she quickly became a fan. She’s been wearing the brand’s shoes and clothing ever since.

Zendaya told Vogue it’s ironic for her to be partnering with an athletic-wear brand because she’s a recluse when she’s not working.

Her self-isolation is brought on by severe anxiety. The Challenger star said being a shut-in is something she’s trying to work on.

“I think sometimes people assume that because of what they see of me, maybe I’m a certain way,” she says. “But when I’m not working, I tend to isolate myself. My therapist, family, and friends will tell me, ‘You need to get up and get out,’ and I never want to — but when I make myself do it, I realize it’s actually kind of nice. I’m less anxious. I have to really be intentional about taking care of myself. I’m learning to be more responsible for myself and for my own body and looking after it all.”

Time magazine named the actress one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2022. She has won awards, including two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award.

But behind closed doors, Zendaya is a nervous wreck who struggles to get out of bed everyday.

“Sometimes it’s just getting out of bed, telling myself, ‘We’re facing the day: we’re taking a shower, we’re putting on real clothes, we’re seeing some sunshine.’ I try to set little challenges for myself,” she said.

She wants people to know that – no matter how glamorous her life may seem – life isn’t always easy or perfect.

Zendaya said it helps to know she’s not the only one who’s suffering.

“It can look different for different people, but everybody needs to have people to reach out to and talk to and feel supported by,” she says. “I think for most people, it’s not always easy to go on a several – mile run every morning; sometimes it’s hard to do even the little things to take care of yourself. It helps to feel like you’re not the only one.”
