Beyonce’s mom Tina Knowles is calling for a boycott of all Target stores for rolling back the company’s DEI policies.
In a now-deleted Instagram post, Knowles accused the company of “bowing down” and “kissing the ring.”
In a caption of a post that showed a statement from Target, Knowles wrote, “So Yall Bowed down and kissed the ring huh? Crossing you off my list! No more Target! [sic]”
Last week, Target announced it is rolling back its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. The announcement resulted in backlash from Democrat leaders in blue states.
Target said that it would conclude its “three-year diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) goals” after spending $2 billion with Black-owned businesses.
Target’s Chief Community Impact and Equity Officer, Kiera Fernandez, said in a statement that the company is entering a “new chapter.”
“As a retailer that serves millions of consumers every day, we understand the importance of staying in step with the evolving external landscape, now and in the future,” the statement read.
Rev. Al Sharpton showed his displeasure with Target by holding a buy-in at Target’s competition, Costco.
Sharpton tweeted that he and 100+ members of @NationalAction held a buy-in at a Costco store in Harlem, NY “to show support for the company’s strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).”
