A Georgia father who was arrested for leaving his children alone at a McDonald’s was not at a job interview, police say.
Chris Louis, 24, left his three kids, ages 1, 6 and 10, alone at the restaurant for over 90 minutes, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
He returned to the restaurant and was detained by sheriff deputies when he was unable to prove where he had been.
Louis told officials he had filled out an application at the West Bank Inn hotel next door earlier in the day and was waiting for a callback.
An employee confirmed Louis had filled out a job application at around 1:30 p.m. but was not expecting any return call for an interview.
Security footage showed Louis walking around the hotel at 1:30 p.m, but not around 4:30 p.m. when he left his kids at the McDonald’s.
The McDonald’s location in Augusta, Ga has a play area inside, according to The Augusta Press.
Concerned customers notified McDonald’s employees that the children appeared to be abandoned inside the restaurant.
The customers heard Louis say that he needed to “drop something off” before he left the kids at the restaurant.
The children’s mother arrived and took custody of the children while Louis was transported to jail.
Ex-NFL star Antonio Brown launched a GoFundMe that raised over $45,000 for Louis.
However, social media users expressed doubt that the family will receive the money from Brown, who has significant cash flow problems himself.
