Tory Lanez’s defense team uncovered new evidence that might free him from prison. Tory’s lawyers held a press conference on Wednesday to discuss their new evidence, days after the rapper was shanked by an inmate in a California prison.
Tory, 32, was airlifted to a hospital in Bakersfield with 14 stab wounds and 2 collapsed lungs. His father said Tory is recovering “remarkably well” from his injuries.
Tory, real name Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year sentence for shooting ex-girlfriend Megan Thee Stallion in the feet after they attended a holiday party in Calabasas, California in 2020.
In a press conference held on Wednesday, Tory’s lawyers said Megan’s best friend, Kelsey Harris, is the person who pulled the trigger and shot Megan that night.
After Tory was stabbed in prison on Monday, Kelsey’s bodyguard told his lawyers he heard Kelsey say she pulled the trigger back in 2020.
Attorney Walter Roberts said, “Mr. Peterson never shot anybody. Never even touched the gun.” He explained that Kelsey shot at Megan three times, and that gunshot residue was found on Kelsey’s hand.
Roberts said Tory never handled the gun. He said there was a discrepancy in the DNA evidence that showed only Tory Lanez’s DNA was found on the weapon. Roberts said traces of unknown DNA was also found on the gun.
Gianno Caldwell, a Fox News political analyst, also stepped up to the mic and stated, “Mr. Peterson was never given a fair trial, free from bias.”
Caldwell has been advocating for Tory Lanez since his 2022 conviction for shooting the hip-hop star.
Caldwell criticized former L.A. County District Attorney George Gascón for not requiring DNA testing on all suspects at the scene that night. The journalist also questioned why Kelsey Harris pleaded the Fifth Amendment when she was never accused or investigated in the case.
The press conference was organized by United the People, a non-profit focused on social justice. The attorneys asked the governor to pardon Tory as he fights for his life in a hospital ICU.
In a jail phone call from Tory to Kelsey Harris, the rapper blamed alcohol for the shooting. “I know she probably never ever gonna talk to me ever again, but… I just want you to know, bruh… I was just so f—— drunk… I didn’t even know what tf was going on…. Regardless, that’s not gonna make my actions right.”
He added: “What happened happened already. I can’t take it back… I’m just telling y’all I’m sorry.”
