Rapper GloRilla shocked the gospel music industry when she walked away with the Best Gospel Song award at the 2025 BET Awards on Monday, June 9.
The Memphis rapper gave all the glory to God after she won the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/ Inspirational Award. Fellow nominees included gospel singers Yolanda Adams and Tamela Mann.

“It’s a blessing to get the Gospel award first because I owe it all to God,” she said during her acceptance speech. “Shout out to Kirk Franklin. I’m not gon’ lie, I was kind of scared to ask him for a feature on this song because ya’ll know how I be rapping. When he said ‘yes,’ I was so excited, I had this song in the vault for so long.”

GloRilla, 25, won for her rap song “Rain Down On Me” (2024), featuring Kirk Franklin, Maverick City Music, Kierra Sheard, and Chandler Moore.

The song is off of her 2024 album Glorious, which VIBE magazine declared the best album of the year in 2024.
GloRilla raps on the song:
Feelin’ like I’m God’s favorite,
And that’s the best feeling ever
Rain down on me, Father God,
I won’t use an umbrella
Forgive the ones who play with me,
Apparently, they don’t know no better

She was escorted to the BET Awards by her current boyfriend, rapper and reputed Memphis gang leader Yo Gotti, 44, who previously dated Angela Simmons.
Yo Gotti and Angela parted ways earlier this year.
