Grammy nominated singer Akon was arrested near Atlanta, Ga. on an outstanding warrant. The pop star, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam, was arrested on a warrant out of Roswell, Ga. and spent 6 hours in the DeKalb County Jail before being released.
Akon, 52, was taken into custody by Chamblee police after his Tesla triggered a Flock license plate reader camera which was linked to the fugitive warrant.
Flock license plate cameras are mounted on nearly every block in Atlanta and the surrounding suburbs.
The warrant stemmed from an incident in September when police discovered Akon was driving a Cybertruck with a suspended license.
Akon, who is currently on tour in India, has not commented publicly on the arrest.
Akon’s estranged wife of 29 years, Tomeka Thiam, filed for divorce in September, citing irreconcilable differences. Tomeka demanded $110 million USD spousal support with joint legal custody of their daughter Journey.
However, after reviewing his financial documents, Tomeka discovered Akon has only $10,000 left in his bank accounts.
