An Arkansas woman is sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing her pastor boyfriend.
Latoshia Daniels, the woman convicted of killing Memphis pastor Brodes Perry, was sentenced to 20 years in prison by a Shelby County judge on Feb. 24.
Daniels tearfully apologized to the Perry family in court.
“To the Perry family, no words can express the pain that I feel,” she said on the stand Tuesday. “Nor will it ever take away the pain that you feel. But I want to say to you that I’m Godly sorrowful … and I pray that all of you guys will forgive me. But please know I never meant for any of this to happen.”
“We asked for first-degree murder, and we thought the proof was there, but we’re happy to get some justice for the victims,” Shelby County prosecutor Kevin McAlpin said.
Daniels, 46, was convicted of killing Perry, then-36, and wounding his wife Tabatha Perry at their Collierville apartment in April 2019. Perry was a pastor at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church in Memphis.
Daniels and Pastor Perry knew each other when they lived in Little Rock, Arkansas, according to authorities. They said Daniels drove from Arkansas to Perry’s home in Tennessee and confronted him and his wife about ending their relationship.
Pastor Perry allegedly told Daniels that his wife knew about their affair and she was fine with it.
According to a police report, Tabatha Perry told police she was not aware of her husband’s affair with Daniels. But the day Daniels arrived at their home, Tabitha said her words and actions made her believe they might be having an affair.
Daniels left the house after about 10 minutes, and the couple followed her outside. She then turned around, produced a handgun from her coat, and shot Pastor Perry multiple times, saying, “You broke my heart.”
Tabitha was shot and wounded in the shoulder.
When police arrived, Daniels refused to put the gun down, and police shot her with “a less lethal shotgun,” which made her drop her own gun.
Daniels was a licensed social worker and the owner of The Root Behavioral Health, which specialized in anger management, police said.

The defense attorney who represented Daniels in court is Arthur Horne.
Horne and reality TV star NeNe Leakes were spotted kissing and cuddling at courtside during a Memphis Grizzlies game the day after his client was sentenced.

According to TMZ, the suave and debonair attorney was convicted on a misdemeanor assault charge in 2018.
Horne was cleared of rape and kidnapping charges in the August 2017 incident, but he was convicted of the misdemeanor assault on a woman he dated.
