Detroit rapper Eminem is no stranger to controversy. The 42-year-old rapper often uses controversy as a marketing tool to sell his albums. Take for instance his new music video for “Shady Cxvpher” in which he threatens to punch Lana Del Ray in her face twice like disgraced former NFL player Ray Rice.
Slim Shady also manages to piss off the gays in his new music video: He raps: “But I may fight for gay rights, especially if they dyke is more of a knockout than Janay Rice. Play nice? Bitch I’ll punch Lana Del Rey right in the face twice, like Ray Rice in broad daylight in the plain sight of the elevator surveillance. ’Til her head is banging on the railing, then celebrate with the Ravens.”
Rice, a former Baltimore Ravens running back, was suspended indefinitely by the NFL after he was caught on surveillance video punching and dragging his then fiancee out of a casino elevator.
Eminem also raps about CNN anchor Anderson Cooper‘s sexual preference for men — in a way that is not flattering to the gays.
Del Ray (pictured above) has professed her love for Eminem in the past. In an interview with Popcrush.com in 2012 Del Ray, 29, said, “I f*cking love Eminem! I found out music could be intelligent. He wasn’t just rhyming for rhymes sake.”
Harlem socialite Azealia Banks defended Del Ray on Twitter.com on Tuesday, saying she would punch Eminem in his face for the singer/songwriter. But Banks’ record label forced her to delete the tweet — which did seem odd since she isn’t in any danger of losing record sales that don’t even exist.
I mean, the words “I can’t wait for Azealia Banks’ new record” have never been spoken.
Controversy or not, Eminem sells records. He may just become the 2nd artist to go platinum in 2014. Singer Taylor Swift was the first American artist to go platinum in 2014 with her fifth studio offering 1989.
