The U.S. Department of Justice filed a formal request to disqualify U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross from the Georgia voter records lawsuit. Judge Ross is accused of attending a partisan political event last year.
She is also accused of engaging in intercourse with a high-ranking Atlanta police officer in her judge’s chambers.
Judge Ross was privately reprimanded for attending a partisan political event honoring Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
Federal prosecutors submitted a motion to disqualify Judge Ross from presiding over the Georgia voter records lawsuit.
The government’s motion included a December 2025 report reprimanding the judge for committing judicial misconduct by attending the partisan political event.
Additionally, Judge Ross was privately reprimanded for having intercourse with Atlanta PD Deputy Chief Kelley Collier in her chambers within the earshot of her law clerks.
Judge Ross is married to fellow Judge Brian K Ross. Deputy Chief Collier is also a married man.
A report by the Judicial Council of the Eleventh Circuit noted the workplace relationship “demonstrated a gross lack of judgment” and resulted in a “chambers workplace that was extremely uncomfortable and troubling for clerks”.
The Judicial Council issued a private reprimand to Ross in January 2026, and the judge agreed to apologize to former law clerks.
Bloomberg Law reports Judge Ross was nominated by President Barack Obama in 2014.
The mother-of-2 presided over the bank fraud case of reality television stars Todd and Julie Chrisley. She sentenced them each to prison in 2022 after they were convicted of bank and tax fraud.
President Donald Trump pardoned the couple in 2025. They served 2 years in prison.
Todd and Julie Chrisley say they want Judge Ross impeached. “When you are placed in a position that a judge is placed in, like Judge Ross, you are holding in your hands a family’s life, their freedom,” Todd Chrisley told “Katie Pavlich Tonight.”
“When you’re going to judge these people that’s coming in front of you, you should certainly hold yourself to a higher standard than what she has. This is a woman who’s married to another judge, Judge Brian Ross, who was having an affair, a multiyear affair, clerks reporting about her misconduct of having sex in her chambers,” he added.
