Comedian Chris Rock has a simple reason for divorcing his wife of 19 years, Malaaka Compton-Rock. Sources tell gossip tabloid TMZ that the 49-year-old ‘Top 5’ star was “unhappy” in his marriage and he wanted out.
Friends told People magazine the couple’s divorce was “a long time coming.” There have been whispers of infidelity and whoredom on both sides.
Rock has complained bitterly that Malaaka prevents him from seeing their daughters, Lola Simone, 12, and Zahra Savannah, 10. Thankfully both girls are old enough to understand that it’s time to leave when 2 people are not right for each other.
One source says this will be a “simple divorce” and that there is no third party involved — Chris just did not want to continue in a marriage that was not fulfilling.
Although our sources say the divorce won’t be contentious … obviously there is some bad blood. As TMZ previously reported … Rock complained MALAAK ?has been preventing him from seeing their 2 daughters — and he is asking for shared legal and physical custody.
Malaak issued a statement making it seem like they jointly came to the decision to split — but Chris’ people fired back … making it clear HE was the one who filed for divorce. Source

As early as 2007 Rock was extolling the virtues of being a married man.
“The best part is just having a partner,” he said. “There is no real worst part. I’m not going to say there’s a worst part. I mean, I’m a comedian – comedians like to work alone. So maybe I’m not the ideal guy to be married to, in that sense.”
