The bloodthirsty ISIS henchman known as “Jihadi John” is dead.
A drone strike took out ISIS frontman Mohammed Emwazi as he sat in a vehicle outside a cafe in the northern Syrian city of Raqqa on Thursday.
The drone strike was described as a “direct hit” on the vehicle carrying Emwazi. “We are 99% sure we got him,” said a senior U.S. military official, who added Emwazi can’t be identified because his body was “vaporized.”
The drone strike was carried out by a coalition of American and British air forces.
British Prime Minister David Cameron described the drone strike as “a strike at the heart” of ISIS.
Emwazi was the masked British executioner seen beheading captives in high quality videos uploaded to social media. The beheadings stopped after Emwazi was unmasked and publicly identified earlier this year.
“Britain has been working hand in glove with America over the ‘Jihadi John’ drone strike, to defeat (ISIS), and to hunt down those murdering hostages,” said Cameron’s office in a statement.
There were no civilian casualties in the drone strike.
