As you know, singer/actress Jill Scott tied the knot with her boyfriend Mike Dobson in a secret ceremony at her Franklin, TN home on Saturday, June 25th.
We know this because DJ Mars, a local DJ with numerous celebrity clients, spilled the beans on Instagram.com on Saturday.
That’s Mars pictured on the right with the happy couple at their wedding.
Mars, who was asked to DJ the wedding a year ago, wrote:
“So my man called me a year ago and said, ‘Mars I need you to DJ my wedding… don’t get booked on June 25th 2016!’” wrote DJ Mars. “He came to my house and gave me the deposit early, but he didn’t say he was marrying Jill Scott!!!!! Damn homie!!!!!!!!!!
This wedding made my summer! I’ve known Mike for almost 20 years, but dude could have alluded to the fact that he was marrying Jill Scott(lol)! All he said was,u are working with her in Vegas. He’s a total class act,he won with the wedding! #djmarsapproved
His posts — along with the wedding photos and videos — were all deleted.
Judging by what DJ Mars wrote, it seems Dobson was eager to rush Scott down the aisle a year ago, and maybe she told him to pump his brakes?
A tipster whispered in my ear that Dobson is a city employee whose annual salary won’t cover Scott’s bills of $50,000 a month.
The tipster also said Dobson is a 40-something father-of-six who is “recently divorced,” and he was “anxious” to get married. Probably because those child support payments are weighing heavily on his mind?
Scott is no stranger to divorce court. She divorced her first husband, Lyzell Williams, in 2007 after 6 years of marriage. And she has a 7-year-old son with her former drummer, Li’l Jon Roberts.
In an interview with Rollingout.com, Scott discussed the pitfalls of rushing into a marriage based on infatuation and lust.
“We get caught up in someone’s looks, or their money, but not the person. Or, we’re into someone for a couple of months and then the novelty fades and we’re on to the next,” she said. “Love is bigger than just the emotion for the moment. Love requires patience. It requires communication. It requires and demands mutual respect and understanding. In this quick-paced world, we want immediate gratification. Our idea of love and having that is great, but the immediate gratification of having it all is what most people are after in this microwavable world. That’s what makes it such a challenge. We have to change our mentality if we want relationships that will last.”
Scott told Essence.com any man who wants her hand in marriage has to pass her 6 month test.
“If you make it over the six month hump, you have done something. I must really like you,” she said.
