A Georgia man and his live-in girlfriend are charged with concealing the death of his 7-year-old daughter, Kamaire Wash.
Michael Wash told police he and his girlfriend, Lasherae Davis, put Kamaire to bed Wednesday night. He said when they awoke on Thursday morning, they discovered the front door to their apartment was open and Kamaire was missing.
“They said they searched for about an hour or so. When they didn’t find her, that’s when they contacted law enforcement,” Capt. Cliff Chandler told Channel 2 News.
Bartow County deputies and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation met with East Point police after a little girl’s body was pulled out of Lake Allatoona in Bartow County on Wednesday.
Michael Wash reported his daughter missing the next morning.
Kamaire’s biological mother, Kashira Pettigrew, who lives in Illinois, was co-parenting Kamaire with Michael Wash.
“I found out when her father called me and told me our daughter is missing. The way he said it is, ‘Our daughter’s missing'” Pettigrew told Channel 2’s Liz Artz by phone Friday.
“I want to know what happened to my baby. Why is no one telling me anything and what’s going on?” she said.
As of Friday, Pettigrew had not been told the identity of the girl in the lake.
“Just to know that could be my little girl in that lake,” Pettigrew said. “Justice needs to be served by any means necessary.”
She said Michael’s 3 biological children with Davis were in the home at the time of Kamaire’s disappearance.
“Nothing happened to those babies, but for some reason my baby, my baby, she’s missing. It just doesn’t add up to me. All I want is justice,” she said.
After investigators interviewed Michael Wash and Davis for several hours, they were taken into custody on Friday.
Michael Wash was charged with aggravated assault, multiple counts of cruelty to children, giving false statements and concealing the death of another, according to the AJC.com.
Davis was charged with being party to a crime of aggravated assault, being party to cruelty to children, giving false statements and concealing the death of another.
