Good Morning America host Amy Robach has apologized for uttering the archaic and outdated term ‘colored people’ to describe black people.
Robach made the unfortunate remark during Monday’s edition of Good Morning America, while discussing singer/actress Zendaya.
“We all know Hollywood has received recent and quite a bit of criticism for casting white actors in what one might assume should be a role reserved for colored people,” she said.
The backlash on social media was swift and brutal.
Robach apologized, saying her “mistake” was “not at all a reflection of how I feel or speak in my everyday life.”
Robach added that what she meant to say was “people of color”.
It’s an easy mistake to make, especially when you’re up against a commercial break and the producers is shouting in your earpiece.

Unveiled unprecedented new HUD rules (which were lobbied by civil-rights leaders), that require cities/towns all over the country to set goals on reducing housing segregation (and help shift the concentration of poverty out of certain neighborhoods). City officials must audit their housing patterns for racial bias and publicly report the results every 3 years.
7. Created and invested nearly a billion dollars in the ‘My Brothers Keeper’ program to provide resources, mentoring and other guidance programs for at risk black youth.
8. Established and invested $150 million towards the ‘Pathways out of Poverty’ program, which offers green job training to low-income youth and adults in minority communities.
9. Awarded $29 million to the Charleston shooting victims. Their payout was significantly more than what was given to assist the victims of the 2012 Aurora, Colorado, theater shooting ($2.9 million); the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting ($1.5 million); and the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing ($8.3 million).
9. Implemented a federal task force to prevent acts of police brutality, drive reforms for local law enforcement practices and improve relations between police officers and the black community:
a. Imposed a mandate increasing the number of officers that are required to wear body cameras.
b. Imposed legal action against various local police departments (like Ferguson) for violations of Civil Rights and their failure to implement certain reforms.
9. Other Justice reform initiatives:
a. Is taking measures to roll back Reagan/Clinton era drug conviction policies that have disparagingly incarcerated black men.
b. Granted clemency for hundreds of low level, non-violent offenders that have been incarcerated under harsh drug laws(most of these are black men).

I’ve learned that when people say this, they are really saying, “I’m not that deep; I don’t get it”. If you think of it that way it’s easier to have compassion for them and overlook their comments.

so rose garden: i work for a youth drop in center and we have a young person who is a nazi sympathizer. yesterday I told my (white co-worker) I don’t feel comfortable around this youth and that we dropped the ball in asking him to leave our program. he hasn’t done anything recently to warrant a banning but his mere existence offends me. Our drop in center is supposedly a “safe space” and I’m not the only one who feels this way. We have adult volunteers who refused to work when he’s present. After expressing my feelings, I got every excuse imaginable, ” we have to be fair”, “he has not done anything on our property to suspend/ ban him”, blah blah blah. I have a meeting with the big boss today and I plan to voice my concerns with the caveat that i don’t expect anything to be done but I want it on the record that I’m concerned for my safety. Am I overreacting?

He made sure that the brothers and sisters got some of the same contract action as the white folks to make that money. When I was born “colored people” was commonly used on the west coast. My and my siblings race was stated as Negro on our birth certificates. LOL I’m still breathing so it definitely was this century. I identify as a Black woman, but being active in our struggle it tickles me to see all races stumble on just what to call us, at what time of day and all are never satisfied. People misspeak all the time. Most don’t know or understand the reason for each season of designation. I define me. I don’t really care what they think, but I fight against what they do that will impact my people.
I have worked decades in television and music industry….cracka has been said, however this woman was a journalist and should be sanctioned. I know what it’s like under hot lights trying to keep up with a teleprompter. There are bigger fights, and no one barely showing up to fight. Not saying you are but keyboard jockeys need to go hard, by taking direct action, or go home. Networks respond to direct complaints and petitions even more than social media. Talk is still cheap.
