William Ronald Pulliam, 62, was arrested and charged with gunning down 15-year-old James Means whom he later referred to as a “piece of trash”.
Pulliam, who has not been charged with a hate crime, is being held in jail without bond.
The incident happened on Monday at a Dollar General Store in Charleston, West Virginia, according to the NY Daily News.
Witnesses say Means accidentally bumped into Pulliam as he was entering the store.
They exchanged words outside the store and then again when Pulliam left the store.
Witnesses say Pulliam produced a pistol and shot the teenager twice in the abdomen, leaving him to die.
Pulliam calmly left the scene, went home and proceeded to eat dinner, then hang out at a friend’s house, according to The News.
When Pulliam was arrested Tuesday morning, he expressed no remorse for killing the unarmed teenager in cold blood.
“The way I look at it, that’s another piece of trash off the street,” he told investigators.
In a previous incident involving a Hispanic teen, police told the teen to just stay away from the old man.
Means was described by family members as a young man who would “light up a room, even on the darkest of days”.
