NBA player Draymond Green is facing a lawsuit over an alleged physical assault last year.
ESPN reports that the Golden State Warriors forward was involved in an incident last July in which he allegedly slapped and choked a Michigan State football player.
Celebrity lawyer Lisa Bloom, who recently represented socialite Blac Chyna, announced on Monday that she is filing a lawsuit against the 27-year-old Warriors player “who has often been called a bully on and off the basketball court.”
Green allegedly slapped former Michigan Spartan player Jermaine Edmondson with an open hand during a dispute at an East Lansing bar on July 10, 2016. Edmondson asked to be released from the team a few days after the incident.
Green was arrested after slapping Edmondson. The two-time NBA All-Star was released on $200 bond and didn’t appear in court.
Thanks to his star status, he reached a plea deal that downgraded his assault charge from a misdemeanor to a simple noise violation and civil infraction, according to ESPN.
The new infractions carry a $500 fine, 90 days in jail and $60 in restitution.
According to the lawsuit, Green committed “alleged acts of violence against a young man and woman,” presumed to be Edmondson and his girlfriend, who was present on the morning of the dispute.
According to a police report, Edmondson and his girlfriend were grabbed by the throat by Green and two “NBA associates”.
Edmondson and his girlfriend allegedly approached Green and taunted him after the Warriors lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals.
Green reportedly did not know who Edmondson was. He spotted Edmondson on the morning of July 10, 2016, at Conrad’s Grill in East Lansing, and slapped him after a brief argument.
Bloom said her clients will make an appearance at a news conference on Tuesday, July 25.
She said Edmondson and his girlfriend will “speak out for the first time about the claims of physical assault, bullying and misleading statements made by Mr. Green that they claim have severely impacted their lives.”
“I am just letting my attorneys handle the situation,” Green told ESPN. “I am hopeful and confident this will be resolved soon.”
