Chicago police may turn to social media to help solve the tragic case of a 19-year-old teen whose body was found in the freezer of a hotel.
Kenneka Jenkins went missing after she left home Friday night to go bowling with friends. Kenneka’s mother, Teresa Martin allowed her responsible daughter to drive her car.
Kenneka’s friends returned the car to Teresa early Saturday morning, saying they couldn’t find her missing daughter.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Kenneka’s friends, Irene Roberts and Monifah Shelton, invited her to a party at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare Hotel & Conference Center in Rosemont, Illinois late Friday night.
Shelton was an employee at the hotel, where she often held parties in empty rooms and allegedly supplied her friends with drugs and alcohol.
According to social media users, someone allegedly gave Kenneka a date rape drug and plied her with alcohol.
When she was sufficiently drunk, several men were invited to the hotel room to sexually assault Kenneka.
The party atmosphere in the hotel room was streamed by Roberts on Facebook Live. Most of the video shows her smoking weed with her friends and listening to music.
Roberts can be heard throughout the video answering cell phone calls and directing people to room #926 in the hotel.
Around 4 a.m. Saturday, Roberts returned Teresa Martin’s car and Kenneka’s cell phone, which Roberts claims Kenneka left inside the hotel room before she went missing.
What happened next is a worrisome series of police indifference that often hinders cases where black people go missing.
