Houston Texans rookie sensation Deshaun Watson is doing his part to give back to the community. The 22-year-old former Clemson star quarterback donated his NFL paycheck — $27,353 — to three cafeteria workers who were impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
Watson surprised the three workers in the team’s cafeteria, handing them three checks wrapped in red ribbons.
“For what y’all do for us every day and never complain, I really appreciate y’all,” the Georgia native said. “So I wanted to give my first game check to y’all to help y’all out some type of way.”
The workers were overcome with emotion as they embraced Watson and thanked him for the generous gifts. Each check came to just over $9,100.
Watson threw for 301 yards with two touchdowns and rushed for 40 yards in a near-upset of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots last Sunday.
He earns a league minimum $465,000 in base salary.
Hurricane Harvey made landfall in South Texas on August 25 as a category 4 storm packing 130 mph winds and dumping 51 inches of rain. The storm left a path of death, destruction, and near Biblical flooding in its wake.
