Music legend Chaka Khan is best known for her timely hit songs such as “Tell Me Something Good” (1975) and “I’m every Woman” (1978), but she is concerned about today’s women’s obsession with Trans Glam makeup.
At 64, Chaka is wary of today’s makeup artists — mostly feminine men who are heavy handed with their makeup brushes, so she chooses to apply her own makeup these days.
“Mostly I taught myself. I have put my makeup on in the back of limousines, on the way to gigs,” she told Vogue magazine.
Chaka shared her makeup tips with Vogue‘s magazine readers.
She said the secret to achieving a proper balance of makeup lies in revealing and accentuating different parts of her face.
That means leaving some parts of her freckled face bare while accentuating other parts with eyeliner and powder. In other words, don’t overdo it.
“Go cuckoo,” she says while applying a jet-black waterproof eyeliner, “as thick as you’d like.”
The legend also defines her jawline (“just a little bit, not a lot”) with a contour brush and edges her full lips with her favorite bold magenta lipstick — an Urban Decay shade called Firebird.
Chaka follows her natural cheekbones with a light dusting of powder and thickens her eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil. She applies a Liquid gold pigment, traced along the inside of the eyes for a pop of color.
And she finishes with a light spritz of perfume. Chaka’s last bit of advice: “Always look your best.”
Accentuate your God-given feminine pulchritude with a little man-made enhancements. Don’t overdo it. You don’t have to look like a man to attract men.
