More and more parents are opting for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) to guarantee their baby’s sex will be a boy or a girl.
In the past, parents typically went through the IVF process because they were infertile and wanted to have children. But recent studies show more parents are opting for IVF to guarantee the sex or eye color of their babies.
Certain celebrities are paying upwards of $30K for each IVF procedure to guarantee their babies are twins or — if they already have girls — to guarantee that their next child will be a boy.
“It was my dream,” Janine Tardibuono told NJ 101.5 about paying $25K to guarantee her third child would finally be a girl. “And now I have her.”
Tardibuono and her husband, who have two boys, had the IVF procedure done at North Hudson IVF in Englewood Cliffs. Doctors there screened the couple’s 5 embryos and determined that one of the fertilized eggs was a female.
The female embryo was implanted in Janine’s uterus, and the couple’s healthy daughter, Gianna Rosalia, was born 9 months later.
Dr. Jane Miller, medical director at North Hudson IVF, refers to paying to select the sex of babies as “family balancing.” She says the safety of the technology has led to an increase in the number of couples who choose the sex of their children.
“There’s been so much good, solid science that’s progressed what we can do in the embryo lab,” Dr. Miller told NJ 101.5, adding that she often works with parents from cultures who “value male children.”
Janine Tardibuono admitted their families criticized them for not “playing along with God’s plan.”
“But then my point was that God created these doctors and these people that do the lab work,” she said. “So if God created them, then their work is good.”
She said she and her husband would not have attempted to have a third child if they could not choose the baby’s sex.
