DeKalb County police announced the arrest of Keitren Foots, the boyfriend of a mother-of-5 who was ambushed and shot as she sat in her driveway. According to Channel 2 Action News, police arrested Foots, 30, who is accused of murdering Sharika Bowman, 35.
According to WSB-TV, Bowman was about to take one of her children to school when Foots ran up and shot her 23 times through the closed driver’s side window of her SUV.
Foots was tracked to Granville, N.C., where he fled after the shooting. He was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals, according the Granville County Sheriff’s Office.
WRAL reports that Foots was found hiding in a shed off the Highway 158 Bypass on the edge of Vance County.
Prior to that, he was spotted in a hotel parking lot and chased down Interstate-85.
Police told Channel 2’s Tom Regan that Foots ambushed Bowman on Wyndham Drive in Stone Mountain. Neighbors heard multiple shots ring out in the neighborhood on Friday morning.
Witnesses saw Foots flee the area in a black 2012 Hyundai Genesis, according to police.
Bowman’s five children ranged in age from 1 month to 13 years. Foots is believed to be the father of Bowman’s youngest child.
The victim’s godmother, who didn’t wish to be interviewed on camera, said Bowman was a licensed practical nurse, and was studying to become a registered nurse.
She said Bowman was working to make a better life for her 5 children.
“She was on the road to making a better life for herself and her children,” the godmother said. “We just hope to find out the truth.”
Foots is currently being held at the Granville County Jail with no bond. Officials from the DeKalb County Police Department are on the way to North Carolina to fetch him.
