Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg was literally on the hot seat on Tuesday when he testified in front of Congress about the Facebook data breach scandal.
Zuckerberg was called to testify — not under oath — how the data of 87 million Facebook users was stolen by a British data analysis firm which worked with the Trump campaign in 2016.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-Fla) put Zuckerberg’s feet to the fire when he asked him to explain whether Facebook is a “neutral public forum” that allows free speech or if Facebook engaged in political speech.
Zuckerberg stammered and squirmed in his booster chair as Cruz grilled him over Facebook’s obvious censorship of conservative blogs and individuals.
I’m not joking about the booster chair. Zuckerberg has a Napolean Complex which makes him very self conscious about his height. During his testimony he sat on a 4-inch pad to make himself appear taller in his chair.
The highlight of the hearing came when Cruz mentioned Facebook blocking “Trump supporters Diamond & Silk’s page with 1.2 million Facebook followers after determining their content and brand were quote ‘unsafe for the community.'”
“To a great many Americans, that appears to be a pervasive pattern of political bias,” Cruz said.
The blood drained from Zuckerberg’s face at the mention of Diamond & Silk. He recovered quickly and said, “Senator… I understand where that concern is coming from, because Facebook and the tech industry are located in Silicon Valley, which is an extremely left-leaning place.”
Cruz rolled his eyes, and asked Zuckerberg if he was aware of any Facebook page being taken down from Planned Parenthood, which is highly favored and richly rewarded by the Democrats.
Zuckerberg stuttered: Senator…. I, I’m, I’m not…”
When Cruz again pressed Zuckerberg about censorship on Facebook, Zuck seemed to compare Diamond & Silk to “terrorist propaganda”.
