Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass) took President Trump up on his challenge to prove she has Native American Indian blood coursing through her veins. Warren, 69, has for years claimed to be a “woman of color.”
Warren released the results of her DNA test that proves she has less than 0.1% Native Indian blood. Warren has always claimed her great great great grandmother was Cherokee Indian.
Warren is a favorite target of Trump, who refers to her as “Pocahontas” due to her insistence that she is a descendant of the Cherokee Indian tribe.
At one rally, Trump offered Warren $1 million donated to her favorite charity if she can prove her claims by taking a DNA test “and it shows you’re an Indian.”
On Monday Warren tweeted that Trump could send the check to the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center.
The DNA analysis was performed by Carlos Bustamente, a professor of genetics at Stanford University.
“Now, the President likes to call my mom a liar,” Warren said in a video on Monday. “What do the facts say?”
According to Bustamente, the facts say the majority of Warren’s heritage (95%) is European ancestry. She is less than 0.1% Native American Indian.
The President and others have questioned Warren’s credibility for using her status as a “woman of color” to gain special privileges such as programs reserved for minorities.
She is credited with being the first “woman of color” professor hired at Harvard Law school in 1995.
The Cherokee Nation released a statement on Monday slamming Warren’s DNA test and heritage claims.
“Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong,” said Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskins Jr.
“It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens, whose ancestors are well documented and whose heritage is proven.”
So far, Trump has not cut the check.
