A Houston woman who thought she was leaving a friend’s 2-year-old son on his dad’s doorstep has been arrested for abandoning the boy at a stranger’s home.
Authorities arrested the woman on Thursday after a 911 caller said she heard a knock on her door and found a toddler abandoned on the doorstep in Spring, Texas.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said the woman is a friend of the boy’s mother, who was in the hospital.
The boy’s mom texted the boy’s father to tell him her friend was bringing the boy to his home. But the friend dropped the boy off at the wrong house next door, and abandoned him.
Video from the homeowner’s Ring doorbell camera caught the woman fleeing and abandoning the child.
According to KTRK, the father was leaving his residence when he was approached by a media outlet who asked if he knew anything about the boy.
“At that time, the father was shown the video and immediately identified the child as his son,” authorities said in a statement on Thursday.
The father said he assumed the friend’s plans had changed when she didn’t drop the boy off at his home on Thursday morning.
The woman is being charged with felony child abandonment, according to KTRK. Authorities are not releasing her name.
