Earlier this month Steve Harvey said he regretted advising Mo’Nique that her money was more important than her integrity during a conversation about being blacklisted in Hollywood.
Harvey tells PEOPLE
“I take full responsibility for it, it came out my mouth, so I can’t say that I didn’t say it. But to people that really know me, I have lived my whole life as a man of integrity. So when I was referring to ‘integrity’ in that interview, I was talking about the method in which things were being done, and that is all it was.”
But Mo’Nique isn’t buying it.
The Oscar-Winning actress/comedienne tells Buzzfeed’s “Am to DM” show, “I haven’t heard brother Steve say he misspoke. I have heard people say he said it, but I have not heard him say he misspoke. If that is what he said, then that is what he said.”
She continued, “But what I will say is, I don’t know how you speak on something of that nature. I don’t know how you would misspeak on it. If that’s what he said then you would have to ask Steve Harvey.”

I just spoke to someone who worked with Monique on the road. He does not like her. Says she is really a piece of work.
Says she really was blacklisted for her attitude.
*kayne shrug*
I believe it… that attitude she got is something else!
Steve played out.
Huh? ?
she did this to herself. That stank attitude…
Mo’Nique is good for that talking in circles sh*t. Why can’t she just say how she feels. Why the double talk?
This blacklisted/Netflix is still a thing in 2019? Lady, just try to negotiate a deal with Netflix without your hubby, k?

She can be nicety. Although she doesn’t yell and she call you honey, baby, and sugar, you know when she is bein nasty. I still think it is sad what happened to her career.
That’s what I said!… I thought I was the only one that didn’t get wtf she tryna say!?!…. LOL!
Her trying to boycott Netflix showed she was dumb and arrogant.
Her incompetent husband/manager.
I also know somebody who knows her very well. I have nothing against her personally, but let’s just say that in life you reap what you sow. When you sow nastiness, this is the type of outcome you reap one day down the line… even if it takes years for your nastiness to catch up with you.
You think Netflix would entertain the idea of working with her after she called for a boycott of them and called them racist? I doubt it. She should do everything without her husband. He seems to be her problem to me.
He definitely seems to be her issue. But, you can’t just blame him… she’s the one who OKs his foolery.
Maybe… but sometimes your own vibe and energy causes you to attract a certain type of person into your life.
In the end, she picked him, so she still bears a lot of responsibility too.
He chose HER. They were best friends. He was in her wedding. She says she used to give him advice about women (NONE who looked like her)… when she finally hit it big, he was suddenly in love with her… *wink, wink*
MONIQUE THIS IS REALLY A GREAT WAY OF PROMOTING YOUR UPCOMING VEGAS RESIDENCE. SMH!!! SHE IS ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS HER WORST ENEMY……….JENNY JONES!!!
True.
Monique is a sexual abuse victim and she chose him so she can be victimized some more.
When I heard about their open marriage my ears perked up and it was like here we go again.
Monique needs some serious counseling to stop playing the victim, and to eliminate the toxic people from her life especially her husband
She controls her mouth…not him. She told Auntie Oprah to suck her dyck!
She is willing to sabotage her career for a man that is not even faithful to her and made her a laughingstock in the industry..Mo’nique needs to sit her ass down and just stay quiet because there no meaning to her words as an women who literally has no power in her marriage and outside her marriage
I definitely agree.
When Whoopie tried to tell her that her husband was killing her career in private Monique called Whoopie the help in public.
Any time anyone tries to give Monique any constructive criticism she gets defensive.
I ain’t got time for none these fools … bye !!!!!
puff and smoke she still full of shyt and so is Steve …. moving on
What did her hubby do?
Piece of damn work !!!! Dark af!!! Ole nasty one
He doesn’t understand negotiations or contracts, and he obviously has no connections or understanding of how Hollywood works.
And, I get the suspicion that she’s completely controlled by him in every way. She can no longer do a full interview without deferring to him for his input. HE wants to be famous! At this point, as many people know the name Sydney as they know Mo’nique. I have no doubt that everything he says, she will agree with. Even if she knows better in her spirit.
I tried to watch a clip of this but I never could get what either of them was trying to say…I have zero attention span for BS tho
I need specifics Rod
They both do way to much
It happens a lot to people in Hollywood. The people who WORK for the talent end up being the ones feeling empowered because they know that people have to come through them to get to the talent. That’s what happened to Beyoncé’s daddy. He was making enemies because he was talking $hit and making people jump through hoops and then he lost Beyoncé and everybody showed him exactly what they thought of him once he no longer had the talent they needed. That’s why his entire client list died. He was using Beyoncé as leverage to get work for his other clients. When he lost her, people blacklisted his roster as long as they were associated with him.
Got a hard head
Lol I think it’s bc they are both comedians, they are just theatrical by nature. But I agree…?
She can be nicety. Although she doesn’t yell and she call you honey, baby, and sugar, you know when she is bein nasty.

^THIS, I agree with – as far as the career issues, we reap what we sow. From my own professional experience on a film she was cast in, pre-PRECIOUS:
She’s syrupy sweet in public when it suits her, and she uses her hubby as her henchman; but just as quickly as she lays on the fake sweet charm, she can easily pull that “don’t talk or look at the talent” BS and treat you like “the help”.
Of course he controls her that’s why she calls him ‘daddy’!
*shutters*
Im over Monique your 15 minutes been done and you played it wrong move on now!
Yes, Monique is very stubborn. No one can tell her that tomorrow is Thursday.
The issue I have with Monique is she doesn’t want to take responsibility for anything that has happened to her. She wants to blame Tyler, Oprah and Lee Daniels for everything but what part did you play. I understood what Steve was trying to say to her, when you have a family to take care of and depending on you, you move different and respond to things different. It’s a different way you do things and the way she handled it was not cool.
I went back to that Madea clip you posted … lol
Is Steve’s show cancelled yet?
Monique has the same issue as Wendy…a certain type of man that fills their head with God knows what…their puppets that pretend to be strong
But let me give Steve some because he works my nerve too. He always saying or doing some f? and then coming back to recant. Like that is his whole gimmick.
I hope this is not the last post….I need to get to 6 pm this ain’t gonna do it…
Im with you on this. Auntie if you listening…Please don’t leave us in here for dead!! *MommaDeevoice*
Steve, we heard what you said which was clear to me but now you have regrets “sigh”. Monique glad you got your residency wish you the best. Hopefully you’ll (Lee, Oprah and Tyler) can come to the table in private and have that “conversation”. Too much talent to be back and forth on this same topic for this long.
The Netflix fiasco for one.
Wanda Sykes approached Netflix before Monique and they couldn’t come to an agreement so she went to Epix and got the amount of money she wanted.
But when Monique couldn’t come to an agreement with Netflix they didn’t go to another platform they panicked and thought it was smart to call for a boycott. Why didn’t Monique follow in Wanda’s footsteps and get an offer from another platform.
Wil Packer got into it with Monique’s husband because even after naming Monique as one of the executive producers on Almost Christmas Sidney tried to get more money from Packer’s studio.
Does that sound familiar? Precious
*cough, cough*.
What did Monique and her husband do? They released the entire email exchange because Packer and Sidney.
Wil even told Monique that Sidney as her manager was problematic.
ol Zoot Suit Steve interject himself into Monique affairs, now this sellout byke peddling… typical
I don’t think Steve had anything to apologize for- he was just trying to tell Ms. Open Marriage to secure you and your family’s futures before you start bucking the system. Oprah “played the game” for a long time and look at her now- multi-billionaire, own television network, etc. You have to crawl before you can walk, Monique. But you’ve burned so many bridges, at this point just sit down.
She let that Oscar win go straight to her head. She could have been where Octavia Spencer is now. But no, Octavia took her spot and haven’t look back since.
This what SH said during that interview “The best thing you can do for poor people is not be one of them.”
You’re spot on with this. I was looking at her and thinking, that she has bad energy. She has a good rat mentality, therefore she attracts bottom feeders. Her husband is just like Mary J’s ex.
My issue with the convo that Mo didn’t let money move her integrity is that she wouldn’t take the Netflix deal because of the amount of money. She complained about the amount she was paid to do Precious when that is what you agreed to be paid. Have you ever given an entitled relative something, they take it and then they say F you?
Gotcha ?
My thoughts exactly, I haven’t been entertained one bit today and I don’t get off until 6!
I really wish Mo would stop saying, sister and brother, before someone name. These folks are not your family and surely have turned their back on you in every way possible. Call them by their name! Solely based on the crickets heard when your name is dropped, these folk are no family of yours! And another thing, a strong comparison should be said between Monique and her husband, and Wendy and hers. Listening to their lame ass dudes has ruined their careers. #sistastupid
yea steve you didnt have to apologize because you meant every word …theres a clip going around where steve said shiiiid for 4million dollars hell be a monkey and then said for 10million dollars he be the biggest monkey on tv all black people will be mad and he wouldnt care he will swing from tree to tree to get to work screaming and acting like a big black big lip monkey…
rofl !!!!
Y’all obviously haven’t watched Michael Cohen testimony. Get off this board, set your phones on youtube, grab some popcorn and a cold drink, his testimony was better than watching my son take his first step!
He said that for real??
She was on HIS show.
Not soon enough.#Neverwillbesorry#
It’s a black thing lol. Sis/bruh etc etc…. we allllll faaaaam!
Why should they come to the table when it’s Monique who has kept this grudge going for almost a decade and the only person who cares any more is Monique.
yes i seen it heard it downloaded it
I think there was more to it than that. Like she was supposed to get something additional on the backend. Or maybe it was when Oprah signed on she thought she should be getting more money.
Maybe so. She tried to bulldoze her way instead of bullshutting them. Negotiation skills are needed.
Google ‘Wil Packer Monique husband feud’.
I can’t cut and paste the link at work, but an article from straightfromthea pops up and you can read the email chain for yourself.
It’s crazy.
True. But it seems like one of her old stand ups made its way to Netflix after her boycott. And I think they were still willing to negotiate even after all the bs she caused. I think they would be amicable if she left her hubby out of it.
They are actually brothers and sisters in Christ, our savior
Wow… just wow. That’s all I can say right now.
Right, no matter what color either cause we all originate from the motherfckin same place. Tho you have some that dont want to admit that
She never complained about how little she was paid for Precious. ?????She said she would not do international press runs because she was not contractually obligated to do so AND they were not willing to give her any additional money to do so.
They don’t have to, it’s still tha truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth! boom!
Why cant they be strong trying not to be puppets?
I don’t care for either one, to tell the truth.
Yeah right Steve, you said what you meant to say, when you said it, and I for one was not the least bit surprised. Always came across like a sneaky slithering snake with no ethics, and a huge ego.
Did Steve just say that he’s lived his whole life with integrity? I think Bernie Mack and his brown ex-wife Mary would beg to differ. I cannot stand Steve Harvey. He said what he said and he meant that ish. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/869cb96a7a857f7b18d28f54040933ca96eb76fa8ce1307a5d4d7ea755ad5124.gif
Yup, he proved it when he went shucking and jiving at Trump Tower. Then has the nerve to portray himself as an advice guru. He really grinds my gears.
Exactly. He was totally believable when he said it as well, I don’t expect much from him. There are celebs out there who I would have been disappointed in, he’s not one of them. Hell there are people on this board who I wouldn’t expect that kind of talk from! Steve ain’t sh*t!
I watched the interview and the quote was taken out of context big time. Whats sad about black people is Steve has PUBLIC ALLY done TONS for the black community through his foundations and shows….and Monique hasn’t done anything other then claim victim when she realized just how much her sock had declined.
She can pretend like shes taking a stand for black women, but she is really taking a stand for her pocketbook. Black women who care about black women don’t invite other black women especially Oprah to their private parts.
You’re right, it’s definitely two sides of the same coin, I haven’t forgot the way she insisted on a certain dollar amount before she would agree to terms, so yes she’s got a price, they BOTH want to get paid, no doubt. But Steve really revealed how low rent and sleazy he is on his own show. I think Monique knows how to get folks to sympathize with her a lot better, whereas he put his whole foot in his mouth.
“Zoot Suit.” Bloop!
Yes, she needs to be the one to organize that sit down because it seems she wants that conversation if not just let it go. Grudges only resolve themselves if you meet with the person/s that you feel have wronged you. Steve even offered to create that meeting for her which she seemed receptive to. Talking about it over and over is useless if you are not talking to the people that hurt you face to face.
This is sad to me because I am a fan of Mo’Nique’s work. I’ve loved her since “The Parkers” and “Queens Of Comedy.” She’s super talented, but clearly her attitude is her downfall. Steve Harvey has always came off as a coon to me, but I think the overall point of his message to Mo’Nique was not to behave the way she has been and to secure the bag for her family before her attitude and demeanor robs her of any further opportunities. I hope to catch Mo at her residency. I met her once and she was very nice to me, so I have hope for her.
Exactly!
There is no grudge. Grudges have to involve at least two people and Monique is at least one short.
The other three have moved the efff on and don’t even think about Monique.
Oprah said it best when asked about Monique–she said she doesn’t give negativity any energy.
Monique might want to try that one.
Monique seems to have such an aggressive personality. Even when her face is relaxed, it seems like she can get things popping on a moment’s notice. Sometimes its uncomfortable to watch her in an interview. Like you’re holding your breath waiting on the other shoe to drop.
I’m glad someone else said this.
He tried to talk the hood code talk on the low like you gotta play the game to win. You gotta chill and get yours. Mo said nope I ain’t and let him look like he was telling her to sell out.
Too many black peoples value money over integrity
And even if that’s how he operates behind the scenes, why the hell would he say that out loud? I couldn’t have laid with him that night if I was Marjorie Harvey….
nuh uh gotta pick a side! lol jk
Right!!! I have followed this ninja for years….he is DIRTY!!! I couldn’t believe that he has recreated himself to be this relationship expert!!! He did Mary BAD!! That woman was driving around with him to his gigs before he made it big. He got this new trophy wife an reinvented himself.
Mo is trying HARD to stay relevant. She loves this!!
I’m with you on this. He irked me so bad that I stopped watching Family Feud.
I love Mo’! Her personality is a bit like mine. If I like you, I’ll do anything for you. If you cross me, no matter who you are, I will light your @$$ up.
I am not a game-player or a politician. I refuse to “kiss the ring.” My integrity isn’t for sale. Some people call me “mean” and “rude,” but those are the same people who tried to run game and had their asses handed to ’em.
When you refuse to play ball with the machine, you better be tough and ready to look hell in the face.
I wish you the best of luck, Mo’!
All of you in the comments that are saying Monique has a bad/stank attitude or she needs to shut up and “secure the bag” are hypocrites. How many of you stood behind Colin Kaepernick’s bs Nike “stand for something even if it cost you everything” ad? Have you ever in your life risked it all to stand for something you believe in? I don’t have to 100% agree with a person but I respect someone who puts their integrity and beliefs before greed (money) and fame. If you’re talented and ambitious, money will follow anyway. You’re born with loyalty, integrity and courage. You can’t buy it. Thank God for those who revolted against slavery risking life and limb and civil rights leaders who shed blood for generations they’ll never know. Did Lee Daniels ever repay that Black man Dame Dash for the start-up money he gave him? Did Steve Harvey ever call Daniels out for it? Monique is too real for Hollywood.
Exactly!!!
True…and I think the only person on earth that could have me siding with Monique, is Steve.
Who cares? Acting like a monkey ain’t hurting us in no way shape or form but we all ok with these rappers promoting guns drugs gangs and commercialism non stop. These rappers out here cooning non stop and nobody saying not a word since the late great C delores Tucker..
Wasn’t nothing wrong with what Steve said. He understand how to be diplomatic. Sayjng how ubfeel when u feel it is keeping it real but as we learned from dave chappell keeping it real can go real wrong.
Wasn’t nothing wrong with what Steve said. He understand how to be diplomatic. Sayjng how ubfeel when u feel it is keeping it real but as we learned from dave chappell keeping it real can go real wrong.
“Folks don’t like nobody being too proud or too free.”
The Color Purple
Sick of Monique. How’s that Vegas residency going?
This Monique beotching started when she learned that the Cookie role went to Taraji. She thought she was going to be Cookie, but Lee never promised her the role. He “considered” her. And once Empire blew up, Monique blew up. She’s concentrated so hard on being blackballed, there’s nothing positive she can say about anybody. She’s blasted every black (successful) producer, director, writer, comedian, actress, actor….you name the person and she has blasted them. When she blasted Whoopi for being the “help”, I was threw. She asked, what has Whoopi produced….and failed to look it up on the internet.
Steve shouldn’t even explain himself. She won’t accept it.
Can you imagine working with her? She was either fired from BET or quit. Had a successful talk show and she couldn’t hold that show. Something about money. I am threw with the woman.
Steve has hustled a LONG time and been down and down and climbed back up. When you’re $20Million in debt to the IRS — think about that….and then you WILL yourself to get up off your arse and be successful….think about that….call him coon all you want, but he’s been through a lot. I’m never going to put a person down like that. I cannot imagine being homeless and begging for comedy jobs. Trying to pull yourself out of the dark. But he did it.
ZRo, he (Steve) was doing a joke about how he (Steve) was admonishing another Black actor for agreeing to play a monkey in one of the Planet of the Apes remake movies. And Steve did the typical “Ain’t no way I’d do that…” Then Steve said they told him what the role paid…and THAT’s when he made the “joke.” I remember it distinctly, bc I was watching the show with my daughter and she was like ..OMG mom.
Chile, when Sydney started crying with that lil hat tipped to the side like Chicken George…
They always do and now he gotta stay working hard lest she spend up the money. That’s good for him. I bet he regret her high maintenance ass now.
Yes! So true! My Mom always said that!
Difference is Wendy’s husband was with her before the fame. She was still on the radio in NYC when they got married. At one point during their, she was unemployed, couldn’t pay someone to hire her.
Wendy, with her husband as her manager, grew to become very successful, regardless of the marriage problems they have going on.
Monique’s husband seems to be taking away from her career.
He didn’t deny saying it and many people understood exactly what he meant. People get divorced all the time and sometimes it gets ugly. Her side isn’t the gospel truth…people (women and men) lie and are vindictive.
It was just that – a joke. If you don’t like someone then it’s easy to take everything they say and put a negative spin on it.
I believe Mary.
I don’t believe Mary or Steve. The truth will never come out. What I do know is that she knew she could/would do a lot of damage to him because of who he is, knowing people would lap up her salacious allegations without a single shred of proof. Folks love lies, gossip and innuendo because it’s far more entertaining than the truth.
He didn’t have to do this and he did. I hope things work out in her favor but at this point in her career she need honey to attract the bees.
*STANDING OVATION” ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Unkay!
????????
As a Black female you best be aggressive in my industry and decide whether fame and fortune is worth losing your soul over. It’s better to have peace of mind and sleep well at night. ?”only the strong survive?Do you Monique…bags are material posessions for folk trying to impress superficial people out of touch with spirit. Know your worth and don’t get eaten by Hollywood.
Yeah, she lost me when she waited weeks later [to gather her thoughts and a comeback for Whoopi] to say she was the help and questioned her executive producing background. As you stated, she failed to do her research lol. Whether it was a relevant counterargument inquiry or not, Whoopi has executive produced a few films smh lol. However, you are right on the money. This “war” is about personal feelings and not what anyone has done to Mo’Nique. Now, she is do8ing it to herself SMH .
I completely understand Monique’s position.
I have to respect someone that will stand for something in spite of others saying you should not!
She believes in what she is saying… like it or not!
The idea that she stands against those with lots more $$$ does not make her wrong.
All of this! He channeled his energy in positive and productive avenues to make progress and success. I am not understanding why some believe he is a “coon” for this? And why those same people believe Mo’Nique’s approach is better than his?
Preach!
dead
dead
dead
She wasn’t blackballed she was offered plenty of roles after Precious, but they didn’t pay what she thought they should so she turned them down and after a while Hollywood stopped calling.
What happened to MoNique is quite said! One person can do a great job at ruining your career! Her career is now defending what happened a decade or so ago, her comedy is laced with pain and contempt (not funny)!
These husband-manager arrangements seldom work!
Beyoncé knew to maintain her full autonomy, and partner with her hubby, when they felt like it!
Alicia Keys’ career went south with her husband producing, and keeping him entertained, so not to stray, I imagine! Mashonda’s doing great as a art curator, graduated from Christie’s!
I wish MoNique the best, but this isn’t about integrity or what Whoopi or Steve Harvey said, but the career sabotage at the hands of her beloved!
She’s letting us see the side that comics generally conceal from the public, their dark, bitter, and hurt selves!
just say no to drugs… my fellow rose he was implying that for the money he will be a coon and act a coon for his yt master…he said “i dont give a fawk what my fellow blacks say yea call me a big lip monkey uncle tom.. ill be that”
Jay z made the exact same argument on moment of clarity that steve making. Rappers shucking and jiving for massa check as well. Who hurting more black people? Steve Harvey only embarassing himself but these entertainers out here selling death to our ppl
. And its sambo, not uncle tom.
Kinda feel bad for Mo……
LOL.
The problem is Monique wants to be in Hollywood but on her terms.
She pretends to be some Joan of Arc figure fighting the evil Hollywood while wanting to be in the presence of those same people.
LOL
“just say no to drugs”
Ok Nancy Reagan.
Ha,ha,ha!!!
It kills me that people, will always remember when someone does one or two things wrong, but will bypass all of the good things that one does. We are not perfect people, we get it wrong sometimes!!! It does not negate that Steve has all types of programs for fatherless children, given to back to the community across the country. He doesn’t have to do that, but he does, and has mentors for so many of our youth, who will become the future. HE GIVES BACK! We all need to look at the good that people do, and not focus on the negative. Especially, when the good far outweighs the bad. Black people are the first ones to bash other blacks, then you wonder why we are not respected. You will crucify your own, but not say anything about the whites or other groups that have done more personal damage to you and etc. Smh…
lol not nancy
I actually admire Steve’s hustle, but personally went on FF and watched him act an @ZZ for hours. I was offended, disgusted and disappointed.
He can carry his raggedy tail on…
Exactly he was trying to help Monique be unblacked balled. Monique is her own worst enemy she continues to play the victim. Facts, she was negotiating with Netflix for a Comedy Special they low balled her offer. She called Oprah, Will Packer and Tyler Perry to ask for advice and they agreed privately but not publicly that she deserved more money. Unbeknownst to them she recorded the call and played it on her show. Let’s remember that these people are her Employers and Coworkers she then tells them to suck her private parts. Whose gonna hire this person?
*getting more popcorn* Carry on, roses!
exactly. I knew what he meant when he said it. In that moment things were moving pretty fast in that segment and things can get misconstrue. I wish she would see the bigger picture. He was only trying to help you.
That’s exactly my point. I’m just a regular working person, non celebrity. But I can tell you without a doubt, that if anyone told me that I can suck on their body parts”, they would never get any of my time, conversation or anything else. There is a such thing as “improper conduct, that is what she’s guilty of….most of us know, that when we go on interviews, to look our best and show professional etiquette. I say it all of the time, talent will put you in high places, but your character will keep you there or remove your from that position. Wisdom101
It’s sad to say, but a lot of us can not be helped. I have learned to help those that help themselves. If you are doing things that are detrimental to yourself, and I align myself with you, I will eventually be affected by your foolishness, as was the case with Steve. He has established himself and made the sacrifices, worked hard to earn his money and she thinks that she should simply be paid because she is Monique! People get old in the game and you have to bring your A game to keep the profits. A lot of us think that things should be handed to us….2019, you have to use common sense and think things through before lashing out and coming off as “difficult”. There’s a way to get things done, and her approach is a hot ghetto mess! I like Monique but she’s going about it the wrong way….
LONG EXASPERATED SIGH……. damn we still talking about this??? I mean…damn…..don’t she have a Las Vegas residency (they passing those out like hot ham and cheese)….so why are folks still talking about it? She got work now….so everybody should move on…damn….
I am not a fan of Steve…hon hones can’t stand him…BUT his statement was taken out of context by the masses and I understood what he meant
Wow for any black man to say that really shows that black man needs to think more about the meaning of the word integrity. If it wasn’t for enough people in this country having integrity us black folks would still be slaves. Quite the contrary, MF’s in the old South were getting wealthy from the free labor of their black slaves. So despite the fact that the slaves free labor was making a lot of people rich in the old South enough people still had enough integrity to realize that it was wrong to treat human beings that way so they made slavery illegal.
Its a real bad habit that a lot of us have and its called taking things for granted. If a genie could pop out of a bottle and blink Steve magically to a realm of the “Twilight Zone” where no one had any integrity at all, but Steve was still rich like he is now, I bet it wouldn’t be long before he’d be begging that genie to come back to this reality.
Hey but at least he thought better of saying that and retracted that statement. I’ve got to give credit where credit is due.
Naw he meant what he said .
I love your soft kisses.
