As the saying goes: everything comes out in the wash. Media mogul Oprah Winfrey once admitted she wanted to be white, which explains a lot.
Oprah, 65, made headlines last week when she interviewed Michael Jackson’s two accusers Wade Robson and James Safechuck in her special called “After Neverland”. Both men appeared in the controversial HBO documentary Leaving Neverland, in which they claimed Jackson molested them as youngsters.
Jackson died of respiratory and cardiac arrest following a propofol overdose in 2009 at age 50.
Oprah’s interview with Robson and Safechuck was empathetic and supportive. She even denounced Jackson who was acquitted of similar accusations after a 14-week molestation trial in 2005.
Following the interview, Oprah was dragged unmercifully on social media. She was called every name but a child of God. She even received death threats from a few Jackson fanatics.
Now an old Oprah interview has resurfaced in the Internet graveyard where nothing stays buried forever.
In the old Barbara Walters interview, that originally aired in 1988, Oprah explained that she once wished she was white.
“As a little girl, I wanted to be… [white]. Um, yeah, I did. I was growing up in Mississippi, and it’s the kind of thing that I hesitate to say, because when you say it, all the Black groups call you and say, ‘How dare you say it?’ But yes, I did.”
Many believe this explains why Oprah is often hypercritical of Black celebrities, while leaving Caucasian celebrities unscathed – even though they’ve committed the same or worse atrocities.
When Oprah rocketed to fame as the host of her own morning talk show in the 1980s, Black people attacked her for showing favoritism to her white guests, while being standoffish from Black guests.
At the time, Oprah said the criticism from the Black community hurt her.

I’ve been done with her for a minute now. Never believed the hype. Next.
These pictures ? ? ?
And water is wet…
Its too early for this spooky ish
Black ppl have been critical of Oprah since the 80s early 90s. No one is shocked.
Meh …too bad…YOUR not!
Well, she loves Gayle blk “white washed” C–T Hole, sooooooo *makes a face since I don’t have emojis on my computer* LMAO!
Hell thats a lot of black women, especially in corporate America
She’s an honorary caucasian. No surprises there.
Stawp it, Sandi!!
From 2012:
“50 Cent accused Oprah Winfrey of being a white woman, just like one in her audience, after she had taken various stances against the facet of hip-hop culture that once made him such a musical force.”
Fifty also named his dog Oprah!
A great deal of people feel the same about her!
Look at her some of her behaviors!
Fcuk Oprah.
Don’t encourage her l0l!
*trying to decide how I feel about this article*
This Oprah pic scared the hell outta me, LOL
Oprah went through a lot of trama during her younger years. She may have seen white women as untouchable….something that she clearly was not. After all she was in the deep South in the 60’s…but it appears that she has grown into a different understanding. People do. I applaud her for being honest.
So we starting off on a Monday like this! Ahight
I am not doing this shyt here tu damn day …. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/c1425c997ed3319b16098cad0d4bebaabde80cd22860d557863b4ff2c949aed9.gif
Well she certainly got dough like white folks…I’d say goal accomplished ?
Ok by the show of hands, who’s surprised by this?
That is the better question. lol
I have wondered myself what it would be like for at least one day to live as white women. Not like so moose looking one. But a blue-eyed blond in shape white girl. I am not ashamed and the majority of y’all have thought about it too. After living that day, I would go back to washing myself with towels and not walking around smelling like a dog.
This is not the post I’ve been waiting for all weekend
Its funny Michael Jackson wanted to be white too where is that post…
Damn. Unfortunately, I think this way of thinking is more common than we like to think, particularly when one hasn’t been raised to be proud of their blackness or when they’re in an environment hostile to their blackness. I love being black, never wanted to be anything else. Let’s encourage each other to love our skin, our features, our culture.
That pic is giving me Katherine from the Have and Have Nots…lol
So dis what we gone do Sandy….oh ok
Sandy had better be careful…..I believe that old Chapelle Theory that was going around the internet a few years ago, that can no longer be found. Only Oprah type money can make that disappear. There is a new group of Dark Crusaders and you don’t want to be on their list. But I’m with you Sand!
Many people had that same thought as kids, but hopefully grew out of it. This is just more unnecessary outrage. So what if she did an interview…move on; there’s bigger fish to fry.
I’ve been laughing at this pic for 2 days now.
I can’t !
I have always wondered was Katherine mixed? She looks like a light skinned black women to me.
So she had a Pecola-phase. Okay.
Anybody catch that Lifetime movie “Swinging Strangers” or whatever. I didn’t finish it (fell asleep) but it went left, then right, then left again. Maybe I’ll look up the summary of how it ended. I was glad to see Dana Davis. She did a great job.
Oprah was an abused child living in the South where she seen white women get away with murder, lying and other things…Im not saying thats an excuse but being down there and being limited and seeing black people get disrespected all the time would make any child not want to be associated with it… she didn’t have the mental capacity then to blame the perpetrators…this too early on a Monday…
I feel you. But growing up in my own community dark skinned sucked.
Sandra, I don’t know where you got that white face pic of Oprah, but… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/c283d2355694c9cc50fac347be4af28801930e6c0d6eb3d565bccc190653c3d8.gif
I guess the era she was born in made her want to be white due to the racism and hardship. But I’ll be damned if I EVER wish to be white due to persecution. Nope…I love my blackness and no one can’t tell me anything otherwise. Fast forward to 2019 and Oprah is still acting like she wants to be white still so…????? https://media3.giphy.com/media/uB6rsQFg5yPzW/giphy.gif
I’m sorry you felt ostracized. Colorism is an issue we need to trample.
Lawd! That pic! Lol!
BUNK!
And water is wet. ??
Lord the Bluest Eye now that should be a movie…makes me cry every time I read it… poor Pecola Breedlove…Hollywood is running out of ideas but they dont never want to put stock in african american stories…
We already knew that ?…. ? ?…
How does Oprah act white? Oprah acts like she has sense. If that’s the case I will stay that oreo I was called by my black friends
Is this news ? Anyone who has some time should read the unauthorized biography titled Oprah by Kitty Kelley . She made her fortune by positioning herself as the educated and articulate ‘Mami’ to white women whose vaginas are the meal tickets also known as stay-at-home moms .
I watched it. Catch the end of you can. It was good to see a black lead actress…even though the hubby was white.
Your an asshole! Lol!
“Hypercritical of Black celebrities,”
Oprah was NEVER critical of Prince. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/d558d2cd18f3bb3bcfcd3364c52891e36f12b84f4166e251b168fd58419645a8.png
Well its post worthy most of this shyt we already know at least I do
I’ve read that book ONCE. So sad and tragic. Also, Beloved, I could only get through once. Bawled my eyes out. Now Sula, I wrote papers on that novel. If it were adapted (if it hasn’t been already), I don’t think any director to gather the complexities of that short piece of fiction. Toni Morrison goes for the jugular even in her milder works. Forever a fan.
Let me look into this. Never heard of it
Yes! And apparently Dana is also an author. “Tiffany Sly Lives Here”, (2018), appears to be a young adult novel, maybe? I’ll give it a read—and will finish the movie. Thanks!
So true! My mom-mixed woman said she wished she was white growing up. She had a white boy spit on her as a kid so she spit back-they had a spit war that day. She identifies as black but she had her issues…
New post please!
Hopefully Sandra will allow this link: https://www.harlequin.com/shop/books/9781335994134_tiffany-sly-lives-here-now.html
Well… she ain’t the first and won’t be the last. With the way this world is set-up, and against, people of color, there is no surprise that a little girl in Mississippi wanted to be a white woman.
I teared up reading the outline of the novel. So sad this is still happening today. Can’t read it.
Not a big deal in my mind. I’m sure lots of little black boys and girls have felt that way at some time in their childhood. Oprah’s just being honest, admitting something that most folks wouldn’t.
She’s an uncle Tom
I agree Toni Morrison’s books are very deep but if they can do Beloved then they can atleast do The Bluest Eye…I love Sula and Song of Solomon too by far she is one of the best authors to ever live…
Whatever Oprah Mae.
Exactly! A lot of people on this board are lying to themselves.
I understand…its a beautiful story there are just some parts that are graphic but its a masterpiece…
She looks amazing. She’s 40 or 41 & has an autistic child. She has another book coming out this year too.
LOL
The interwebb
Chile it popped up in my time line Friday night I believe and I was Oprah in your gif, ROLLING!
Really?
I have two younger half-sisters who are darker than I am and it took me until a few years ago to realize why they were low key jealous of me.
Ironically it came out while we were discussing our two half-brothers.
Ha,ha,ha!!!
Chile…
I wonder if one of the trade off’s for Oprah landing her new billion dollar deal with Apple was to do the Leaving Never Land interview. She
See, to me, she looks like a college student, high school senior. I only knew of her with “Heroes” and “Franklin & Bash”, didn’t know anything about her personally, children, marriage, etc. Loved her in both shows though and love her in this film.
I’m not going to come down heavy on Oprah for this one. I know I have daydreamed about having an once of their generational wealth a time or two.
Well Prince carried himself in a way that left little to question or gossip about…
They always get you to sell SOMETHING in order to have it.
I needed a good laugh to wake me up.
OPRAH IS A SAD WOMAN! I have never like her, never will. I knew when I seen her audience on her talk show hardly had any black ppl in it she no good. She will eventually get what’s coming to her!
You know Pecola? Compelling character. Sad.
Not surprising.
Your ass would be scared as hell.
The other day I was in the grocery store parking lot in broad open daylight. I turned around to walk into the store and there was white woman putting groceries into her vehicle and I guess I turned around too quickly to walk behind my car to the store and she leaned back with this frightened face before I could make eye contact.
I was in such a hurry that it took me a minute to even notice the expression on her face much less why she was all scared and chit.
Ok! Because unfortunately back then to them successful lives appeared to be something most white people had. The times have changed and we have more success stories of people of color
I WILL say that, for years, I begged the fashion gods to remove those contacts from Oprah’s head.
Cooking Unseasoned foods, hating other white women but smiling in their face, sleeping with your best friend’s man, calling the police for every little thing, dancing offbeat, getting white girl wasted every night, popping your anti anxiety meds, get pissed everytime a black woman gets praise-you’d be exhausted from all the plotting and bullshit you’d be doing.
Or being shut out economically so you can’t compete where other races are.
Not because of this article BUT I’VE NEVER BEEN A FAN OF THIS WOMAN! Folk worship her because the $$$. PHAWK her!
Right. I don’t think my generation rocks like that-except for the black ones raised in white neighborhoods. You can tell bc their hair is always tore up.
Awwwww poor thing ?
I looked at her Twitter page after I watched the movie & found that stuff out. I loved Franklin and Bash!!
This little black girl NEVER wished for something so terrible. Me and my sibling got to see first hand how awful some white people are first hand. We were some of few the blacks who attended our school. The only thing I can remember wishing for was that my parents would transfer us to an ALL black school because we were literally living in hell everyday. My little brother had it much worse because he was a little black boy. I can write a book about it.
Yes!!
I’m convinced that Rkelly and children brides are up here posting.
Talking about in all “empressing” whites. I have typos cause of my “foam”….But That nationality took me out the other night.
I second that emotion .
Except he liked them young too and married them young once they came of age.
?
I have to get that.
? I cannot
Wait for it, wait for it.
I never wanted to be white, cause when I was outside with my neighbors and we played in my fun fountain they smelled like a wet day old dish rag.
Did you shake your head at her ignorance
So true she is willing to admit what many will not. There have been numerous studies that show black children favor white over black by using dolls for them to chose and they said the white doll is prettier and the black doll is bad and ugly. If you are constatly shown images that say white is beautiful you start to believe it. So stop with the lies you never though about or wondered what you would look like if you were white. IS God going to strike you down or something…no matter what you still black. We have to show our children positive images of African American beauty and let them know black is beautiful. Look at all these black women are wearing a white woman’s or korean womans hair, and makeup 3 shades lighter than their skin. What do you expect little girls will think???? https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/aa785e3b00526300a174be9da47343766f7742799e90a380c4062d72f59b5afe.jpg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiOCVlfHiyk
Many black people who grew up in the segregated south ,and their offspring, wanted to be white. Unlike Oprah, the self-hate still permeates the region and can be seen in the black-on-black crime, the way blacks treat each other, and so on. I’m sure many will jump at the chance tear her apart in this very post.
But, let’s not forget that it wasn’t even 65 years ago when blacks were not allowed to ride the front of the bus, drink from the same water fountains as whites, or eat in the same restaurants as them. Being black was a diminishing quality that was heavily reinforced and perpetuated by society back then. And look at Oprah now!! I’m just glad she loves her blackness now and reaches back to teach others about self-love. As a race, we’ve all come a VERY long way.
No because it honestly didn’t register with me until later that day or the next.
Oprah is what is wrong with black society. They feel the need to ish on their own skin folk in order to get in where they fit in. Yes being a sellout is very lucrative . But at the end of the day we should use her as an example of what happens when you are a complete and utter sellout. Read you bible and it will tell you about gaining the world and losing your soul. Oprah is a soulless demonic woman.
? Yew know what…
He married her I don’t have a problem with that. Wife beats concubine ALL day…
? True… a lot of em don’t know what to do with their hair. Using the wrong products and ish cause they don’t have beauty supply stores or the right products where they typically shop.
Listen, I’ve had an up close and personal view if the sh!t show since middle school. I made sure to take mental notes.
Meanwhile me and my little brother smelled like dax hair grease and cocoa butter.
There are many child brides in the middle east and around the world . Parents are not only selling thier children to Rkelly. Clare Bronfman had a whole stable of sex worker to the elites but we dont wanna talk about that. We would rather cut our own arm off.
Whoppi Goldberg said this in one of standups.
lol
Exactly. Mama didn’t teach them they need to wrap their hair up at night. They use suave products or fructis. Hair broke off from relaxing their hair…
When you know better you do better. In this day in age the only black people who want to be white are mentally Ill.
Yeah but so did R. Kelly.
Oprah
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/ee9c34b8a58f41f6876f058f75ddd234103d5ec5f9b290a0889aee23088ab179.jpg
Oprah has her own agenda – all day, every day.
I can see with the World protraying that White Is Right, Good, Pure, Rich, Educated and All things Wholesome, Who Wouldn’t want that!!! But as we grow we see Whites put out what They Want You to see about them. Or course, We Know that Is Not the Real white world. But we have to be around them to see that. That is Why the Whites Kept us isolated so many years from them Because They Knew it was a lie. Now, White women try to copy black women’s physical attributes, But Oprah will Never get Barbara Walter to Admit on tv that She wants to be Black. That the difference in blacks and whites protecting their identity. Whites Know Better!!! Lost blacks like Oprah Hasn’t Learned.
When I was young I wanted to be blacker. The way black skin glows in the sun is like power radiating from your body.
Wanted to be? FORGET IT!
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/f8c4cb961ee6c2629abcfb220ebd9877bae150fa3c4554c26017c397cc96d016.gif
Oprah still wish she was white. Oprah doesn’t see any honor or worthiness in being black. PERIOD
Man it’s too early for this?????
DID YOU GROW UP IN THE DEEP SOUTH, MISSISSIPPI IN THE 50s? TODAYS BLACKS SAY WE WOULDN’T THINK OR DO A LOT OF THINGS THAT OTHER BLACKS DID EVEN DOWN TO PICKING COTTON OR SLEEPING WITH A SLAVE MASTER LIKE ALL OF THAT WAS A CHOICE. I GET WHAT OPRAH WAS SAYING B/C LIFE WAS HARD AND DANGEROUS AS A BLACK PERSON AND BEING WHITE WOULD’VE MADE IT EASIER AND SAFER SO THAT THOUGHT WENT THROUGH A LOT OF BLACKS MINDS OR DREAMS. I RESPECT HER HONESTY BACK IN 1988………JENNY JONES!!!
Umm no. Be your best black self! Black is beautiful!
You do know that she was charged?
I’m don’t condone any man of any color having sex with underage children and the icing on the cake all of them need additional
Lawd, tha internets done made Oprah a red headed she-devil & my funny bone has been tickled.
Prince married Mayte legally when she was 23. Stay outta my thread trying to debate without facts please
Every Day!!!
Fukk her
Gurl just be happy you made it to this world and hush.
She has been critical to many a black person for the same amount of time. Its mutual
?????
Do you know that her family owns Warner entertainment? Now let that think in your book educated brain and marinate.Do you see it in the news? And is mamay Oprah talking about it? Educated people ask the important “Questions “. Educated people do not just go by what is told to them by biased media outlets.
I love that saying auntie. Nothing but the truth. As for Oprah, no surprise there.
“Hypercritical of Black celebrities,”
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Rappers. Hip Hop in general.
Fukk her.
Love being black! I wouldn’t have it no other way!!!! ?????
So when black womem getting all these long extensions in there hair bleaching there skin and wearing all these European fashions who are they trying to be?
Speak for yourself. All of us aren’t built the same. I thought my mom, granny and aunts were the most beautiful women in the world so that’s who I wanted to look like-and I did. I never wanted to be white. I went to a mostly black school with some poor whites. We had an exchange program with a rich white school and the rich white kids couldnt stand me bc of my confidence and unapologetic nature.
?? I hate that this is true, but it is. The hair don’t lie.
this is my take on it as well… it’s not like she jumped out there as soon as she got money and started doing botch jobs on her face, trying to attain ‘whiteness’ ….i’ve never known of any instance where she bleached her skin, cut-up her nose, wore blue contacts, etc. (like so many others in entertainment). i think she was referring to a desire for that same privileged existence https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/9c5524b933f3a29872256af8b9d30b4c9ec5914b980fdc0a0817cbbe688aa153.gif that was so apparent to a little black girl who saw whites treated a certain way.
Beyonce. Only black woman I know who wants to be white is Lil Kim.
NO lies.
Black Women Are Not the Only Race adding these traits. Whites Been doing it for years. Or course, the focus Is on Black Women like They Invented it. They Didn’t!!! Just like they talked about Michael Jackson’s plastic surgery. Like his dad said, Whites get things done All The Time, Michal Did Not Invent Plastic Surgery. Educate Yourself!!!
Fifty called her out before 2012 on this!
He also named his dog Oprah! <=== that's funny! lol
I TOTALLY AGREE…
You Get A White Oprah…..You Get A Black Oprah…JUST ASK!!! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/82e4cbb9fa88813de39f9cc09929f1ede32b0bd54cf9c10b5bf9a592f32cbfb5.jpg
bloop! LMAO! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/d835412de9eb6c71335ae3eb8122dd11c7af594720f3d88121fad64d31853b53.png
Me too at one time. I used to think all black ppl struggled when i was young cause we were poor as hell. So when i went to my white friends houses i wanted to be them
They are Trying to be Their Best. Like most people want Their Best. It Does Not have a race.
Good Morning Roses, I can’t with this story this morning… I just can’t do it…I will read 5,4 mo comments to get a laugh on.
Girrrrrllll the thing is their parents have the resources to take care of their daughters hair.
how long are we going to be in here?
ghost-oprah is scaring me
The bluest eye… i loved that book.
Amen sis! I couldn’t agree with you more!
i still have a tattered copy of Sula somewhere in my collection…. (could NOT read Beloved… still new in dust jacket, smh)
Fukk folks faves. If Mike going down after he dead then lets get it.
https://people.com/music/mayte-garcia-on-meeting-ex-prince-at-16/
Her mama “sent her tape”. Not of her doing ballet or any of the other dances she was well versed in. A tape of her belly dancing. Bc seems as if NONE of these parents getting enough heat.
He groomed her ass with letters and convo. At 16. Admitted he had thoughts but aint want to get “cross the line”. Sounds like grooming to me.
He moved her in. I’ve read 16 and 18. Dont know which is true. Ask his biggest fan up top. Kcool. Sure they know.
He put her on birth control and then hit it when she was 19.
Then married her.
Listen. Let it burn.
So the best for a black woman is long flowing hair and lighter skin?
Luda was one of the first rappers to call her ass out. Like 2005
thank you. just wow….
Who Wouldn’t want that!!!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Me.
This is where parenting and community come in. This is why representation is important. If you grow up being told that black is beautiful, and that you are intelligent, etc., you are less likely to have the type of self hatred that Oprah and others like her have. If you grow up around professional blacks that are successful, intelligent and cultured, you aspire to be what you see. When your parents encourage (really force) you to read and study your history, you know better. Self hatred is born from ignorance. IMHO.
Dude…….it’s crazy. I need to start a vlog on this. I was once lost too but thank God I get it now! 6 months into my loc journey as we speak. I refuse to touch another wig, weave, relaxer, etc……we all must awake in our own time.
If that is what She Chooses. Who Can Define what makes someone else feel good?
I remember how she played him on her show in front of everybody.
I’m not sure white is what she’s going for.
I am sure he hit before 18 but that’s the lie I mean story they are sticking to. But NOBODY ever brings up Celine Dion’s husband being in his 40’s and her being 12.
Was that when the movie came out? She was very disrespectful to him.
Fifty fell out with her in 2006 I think.
“Fukk folks faves. If Mike going down after he dead then lets get it.”

I agree! I don’t think black women who bleach want to be white, I think they want to be lighter skinned blacks.
Just checked in and That pic scared the $hit out of me.
But at the end of the day, You still want the Best things of life.
*gags a little*
they said Celine and Rene had a “romance” though…. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/5a16feb7886870b58e876a7ffc6b264e7419e743bb55ec579123b82d4a427799.gif
It was way HARDER!! I read an article about Aretha Franklin and how black artists COULD NOT be in Miami after 9pm. They would have to perform their sets and be back across the tracks before 9pm or face imminent violence. Now blacks are running all up and down Miami and South Beach at all hours of the night. But that’s just a simple example of how difficult and dangerous times were for blacks back then,
Oh okay……. it’s war on Harpo for the rest of 2019…..duly noted.
I wasn’t allowed to go to ppl’s houses (my mama didn’t trust Nobody) but the white kids I grew up around would not make you want to be white.
LOL!!!!!! I know!!!!!
Thank God for the internet & home delivery!! It’s a new day. But some of them are still lost in the white sauce and still have shredded wheat looking hair.
Great for you!!! But many Are lost, Wigs, I don’t wear them, Physical attributes Has Nothing to do with it.
????
I’ve always wanted to be rich, never wanted to be white.
I grew up in the Deep South not in the 50’s but the 70’s when school desegregation was FRESH AND NEW.
Same!
Her Loss!!!
I am lighted skinned and was teased mercilessly as a kid. One of the kids favourite phrases was “Black is beautiful, white is “cacapoule”. Cacapoule translates to fowl shit… ????. Kids I grew up with was always taught to love their blackness.
you Need to educate and open you eyes because white don’t get plastic surgery to get African American features but blacks folks sure try to get those pointy noses like whites
The point that (some) people are making regarding weaves, plastic surgery and bleaching is that in a lot of instances these things are done in an attempt to achieve the Caucasian phenotype/Eurocentric standard of beauty. Thinning your nose, lightning your skin, manipulating the texture and natural density/growth pattern of your hair suggest, at a minimum, a subconscious self loathing. Yes, there are women that wear weave and wigs simply because they like them or it’s easier to manage. But, we are not going to act like there isn’t a decent segment of that market that are attempting to look white (what they consider beautiful). IMHO, that’s not being your best self; that’s hating your self and trying to become someone else.
If you grow up being told that black is beautiful, and that you are intelligent, etc., you are less likely to have the type of self hatred
____________
THIS! I have, from the day my Grand-Sun was born (and while in the womb) spoken to him in such manner. EVERY morning before I walk out the door (and in the evening when I see him again), I tell him he is important to us, he matters to us. The world needs him. WE love him. The world needs him. He is going to conquer the day. His black is beautiful. He is handsome and he is a man! Gotta start’em early.
One thing we NEVER do is call him “bad”. We don’t let people refer to him as “bad”. We don’t call him entering into the “terrible 2’s”. WE NEVER speak like that or allow anyone (in our presence) to speak like that towards him. Words mean things, especially to OUR children. And if you keep telling a kid (or ALLOWING others) they are bad, YOU plant something negative from the start. Won’t be mine.
I agree it’s to early for this foolishness.
I read it in the NYT.
When I was involved in prison outreach, even some inmates received advanced degrees, not knowing how to use proper sentence is no excuse.
Not sure what you meant, “Now let that think in your book educated brain.”
Clearly this situation has you confused and befuddled. We are done here. Have a nice day and Take Care.
EXACTLY! I said wait a minute I use to wear my own hair in beautiful styles wtf is wrong with my own hair. Protective styles, versatility, and all the rest of the reasons we give are just lies and laziness. I love my hair it’s unique, it’s beautiful and most of all it’s me.
Kids can be mean, I got teased because my mom sent us out of the house like she cared. One kid wanted to fight me because my mom had longer hair than his and that bothered him…lol
Yes you are an idiot
That what happens when there is systematic racism that forces a European standard of beauty on people. That’s what happens when blacks are stripped of their culture and forced to adhere to European values. That’s what white folks wanted and still want. You can’t blame a child for that. The focus now is to rear children to have pride in themselves
Great article Sandra!!!!
Exactly .keep it up I’m also about to start in a few months
Foolishness is what it is
But, You choose to be one!!! I choose to have a Respectful dialogue.
Yes we are done with your education. There no more I can do to open your mind because the rest us up to you.
Since this is open post, has anyone here visited Trinidad during Carnival? Had a good time? Any wild stories?
Lmao… Kids definitely can be mean but the same way they were taught to love the skin they’re in is the same way I was taught to love mines. My family has a wide range of skin tones and we were always taught to love ourselves the way we are.
Please…you got black celebrities, athletes and bloggers NOT living in Mississippi who want to be WHITE today.
My mother goes every year. She has a BALL
I thought i wanted to be white too when i was young. Growing up in a small town i thought if only i was white it would be easier, i’d Be popular, i’d Be rich. This was me at 5 years old. At 13 i started to think i couldn’t do a lot of things. Looking some time ago i realized this was because i didn’t see many positive influences in media, or limited influence . Anyway i later learned a lot of my black friends had also wished this at young ages. I’m grown and happy I’m black now lol
Even as a white guy, I find Oprah sometime being ‘extra white’ like in the country club snob sense that I can’t stand, if that makes sense.
Yes. I am a Trini. Carnival is fun. No wild stories tho.
Mines to we go from can pass to dark skin. My granny was very light and my grandfather was dark and they produced nine different shades of black…lol
I got teased and bullied a bit in middle school. Changed school districts and went through a super awkward phase complete with low self esteem, didn’t have the clothes, wanting to fit in etc….all that changed in my mid teens though.
In other news, Roseanne Barr saying Auntie Chelle got her fired.
Wow. Thank you for sharing.
All day!
The best thing I ever did!!!
She did an interview with Toni Braxton after she (Toni) went bankrupt Oprah was so unbelievably rude and sanctimonious, Ms Braxton was gracious in the way she handled it a bit too gracious!
AMEN!
Watched the interview. She gave a first hand account from a woman who was sexually assaulted as a child who became a “fast” teen… A story so many young girls share ?
I wanted white girl hair because I thought it would be easier to manage. I never got it. Oprah is a pawn, like Al Sharpton.
I am lighter skinned than my two younger half-sisters and never knew why they didn’t like me especially the older one.
Well one night I was talking to the younger one while we were discussing our two half-brothers and she blurted out-why are all of the boys light-skinned?
Mind you I didn’t spend a lot of time with them growing up or much time with anyone on my father’s side of the family and the last time I had seen her in person was 2014 and before then was 1997 so it was nice finally understand why they were jealous of me.
Kids? Adults are meaner and black women are just strange….so I keep to myself mostly.
That picture! LMAOOOOOO
In the Barbara Walters interview, Oprah has that snobbish air about her, like she’s above everyone – except Barbara. She bows down to Barbara.
Hmmmm……when did her parents give her to him to travel across the world. I LOVE ME SOME PRINCE too but let’s be honest with ourselves.
Thanks, hun! I appreciate it.
Don’t waste your keystrokes.
After that sh!t and reading about conspiracy theories on youtube this past week I have given up all hope on the black community.
Remember the Boondocks episode about the first R Kelly trial?
“My people” *sigh*
I grew in the segregated south and was called the N word more times than I care to remember and not once did I want to be white, I’m a proud Black woman and wouldn’t change it for any amount of money!
Now that you put it in perspective…
I already know..
Thats also the narrative of Elvis and Priscilla. Oh yeah her mama and daddy let her come live with me at Graceland. But I aint touch her til she turned 18.
It was so so beautiful. Sarcasm.
You probably also had a loving and supportive family. Many people from that era didn’t have that. Many were abused and told that being black was wrong by their own parents.
And you should Love Your hair. You decide to change up and that is beautiful. It’s just what you want to do at that time.
LOL
Sounds like my family… My mom has 9 brothers and sisters and not one has the same skin tone or hair type. My grandmother is dark and my grandfather is light and everyone falls in between.
Boo!!
I like dreads on others, I don’t like them for myself. I workout everyday for an hour before work and sweat a lot in my head. I then workout sometimes after my 10-12 hours at work. Lazy-maybe. I just discovered I can plop a custom made wig on my head that looks just like my real hair and be out the door in 30minutes v an hour with my own naturally curly hair. I love braids and I just got hip to wigs. I also love my real hair too. To each his own.
I Educate Myself Daily, even Now!!! Unless You have Surveyed these women, it’s Impossible for You to comprehend their reasons for plastic surgery. I Do Know That!!!
I swim daily and it is PERFECT for me. Like you, I loved them on other people and then I started researching and came up with a style that is perfect for me.
Mayte says their sexual relationship began when she was 19. I don’t have a problem if she doesn’t…
Im glad you posted this.. I think a lot of us felt this way growing up..
Yup, that was probably why. I grew up around white people. Didn’t matter what hue your skin was you were black and for the most part, treated like shit. Strange enough I preferred that over when I attended an HBCU and was treated like crap because I was dark skinned. I was so glad within my family my grandmother could have passed and mamma was my skin color. I never grew up color struck. Matter a fact my cousins who are bright have a huge chip on their shoulder because they feel the only reasons why dudes like them is because their light. These dorks also won’t sit in the sun because they don’t want to get dark. I feel sorry for them.
I love my curls too much.
This is an interview a lot of little black girls can be inspired by. It was my first time seeing it.
I grew up in a black community and I adored the people there. When I was bussed to a white neighborhood I was so utterly disgusted by those cave dwellers. Thankfully I have a strong black beautiful female for a mother who schooled me on thier neanderthal behavior . I was never one to see them as above me and never will. Being that uncomfortable in your own skin is a sign of mental illness.
Well, she got her wish, didn’t she?!?????She is the whitest-black person in media.
I respect Oprah as a business woman but I actually believe Monique when she says she’s a shady person who will do anything for ratings…
Side note my female white friend summed things up perfectly. We were at the mall shopping and she was buying all these products for her face. I asked her why she was buying all those products because she was drop dead gorgeous. Out her mouth she told me that she doesn’t have any peace with her looks. Black dudes only want her because she is white. White dudes only want her because she was blonde and everybody else just wanted to get laid. I asked how that made her feel? Keep in mind this girl had a masters. Her only reply, ” Worthless.”
Thier behavior was beyond stupid when the black students started going to thier school. But the Becky’s all wanted to be down with brothers. White people love to imulate us and I don’t know why we don’t see the beauty in our skin hair and confident demeanor?
Thank you! I have been attacked so much for not being on the Oprah Bandwagon! it’s about time people began seeking what I have seen all along. Never like this woman!
Lol me too…lmao I wanted to be rich and foreign…lol
Crooks and Castles.
I felt the same way. Their “pure angelic” images were pushed down our throats every single second. I honestly don’t remember seeing black people on tv that often. I did think the only way I’d be attractive was being white, skinny with blond hair. It’s sad when you think about it because those same subliminal messages can be seen today infiltrating our youths. Either they want to be Cardi b or a kardashian. It’s unfortunate that it takes us becoming adults to appreciate our blackness. I can’t even imagine being white now. Goodness I am so thankful.
Oprah does not latch on or show love to black people until they have made a certain amount of money. I’ve seen her do it over and over again.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was caught on video flapping his arms to “I Believe I Can Fly” by R. Kelly this weekend. Lmaooooo
I wasn’t brought up like how you mentioned in your post… A lot of us in the black community wasn’t raised to have pride in our heritage. So I totally understand the point @OrettaGraceSmith made..
I agree it’s very sad but I will continue to do my part to try and work towards change. More successful black folks need to visit impoverished communities and get involved in programs that will help the lost youth. More mentorships are needed…it’s hard to find time to give back but it’s very necessary. I’ve been slacking the last 6 months or so since I went though a lifestyle change…but now it’s time for me to hit it hard again.
yep, a real ‘love story’ (if love can blossom between a 12 y/o and a 38 y/o…) https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/5a16feb7886870b58e876a7ffc6b264e7419e743bb55ec579123b82d4a427799.gif
LOL
I can’t imagine it either. I see more representation now in media but we still have a long way to go for our little ones
I never had a problem with their behavior as far as the kids go. The older adults where more the problem for me and also the other black kids gave me more problems. I was only teased by the black kids for not speaking the same way as them. I know a lot of black kids other than myself that were teased for trying to be white because didn’t have the slang or said all of the word. No disrespect to anyone who doesn’t but I didn’t get the love from US either. My parents were great people to look up to for me in a sense that they taught us right from wrong, saving money, keeping clean, avoiding whooping lol. however my father owned a business and he was quite busy. My mom stayed at home and I think instead of her enforcing so much religion on us it should have been more about being black
I’m glad Sandra posted that about Oprah because I for a long time thought it was just me, and then later I found out a handful of friends thought the same..etc
you never know right. lol. I try and talk to my nephews as much as I can about it cause I’ve already seen some of that in my darker skinned nephew and his lighter skinned brother teasing him.
Yes, I agree. I never wanted to share a cup cake, let alone a man. In my opinion there is enough penis around for everyone to have their own.
My mind is closed to Bullchit. I agree
You’re better than I am.
I would be too depressed and paralyzed seeing all of the needs to actually be effective.
Wow. Gotta nip that in the bud. I’m lighter skinned. My sister is brown skinned. When I started learning about colorism I asked my sis if she felt any certain way because our mom and I are lighter. She said she did at times but she got over it because my mom would reinforce how beautiful she and her skin was. All this time I was clueless.
Here’s Oprah: Intelligent. Humanitarian. Civil rights activist all of her life. Dedicated her near 30 run as a talk show host to tackling issues that affect young black women, namely sexual abuse.
Opened so many doors for other black artists and entertainers. Built education and medical facilities in Africa for poverty stricken and sexually abused young girls. Uses her network to promote black history and employ black actors, directors and writers like Ava Duvernay. Has paid countless college tuitions for countless HBCU graduates. Oprahs endless contributions to black communities continue to be immeasurable.
Now heres black Social media: Ignorant. Gaslit. Outraged for the purpose of being outraged for likes. Misinformed. Clueless. Do nothing. Contribute nothing. Understand nothing. Know nothing. Will never be anything but a bunch of negative, worn out seed of hate mongerers and who spread lies and keep up confusion. The end.
Monquie is shady too. Monique just mad because that whole illuminati clique cut her out. She sold her soul too.
She’s probably not the only black person that has had that thought, thinking being white their life would have been easier, less complicated. Many will never acknowledge it though.
Nerp!!! O is still on my whack list….still have not gotten over her MJ shenanigans….I will pass….
Cool for you!!!! I went thru the slip on my head phase as a kid…that was my long hair even though my hair was long it was not becky long. I have no problem admitting that we are a product of the images we see they shape us. (good bad or indifferent)Today I can admit that and also say I am proud in my blackness and have no desire to be anything but. (with grow and wisdom comes understanding) That is what self discovery is about. Next Case!!!
That’s why I had to train myself to stop looking for my worth in humans. People are too damn fickle anyway. They change like the wind.
Wonderful!
Wonderful!
Not to mention the mental anguish of blocking out the destructive images of black people through TV/movies. The IR relationship push, the fear of the big black scary man agenda. The images of the black man being a slave to his libido and chasing white women around. Black women being loud, violent, loose and angry via reality shows.
It wasn’t always this way though back in the 90’s we had some reputable black shows on but now it’s all about whore worship, women taking pics spread eagle with their legs, our community can’t afford to take anymore hits to our images.
Those black women you mentioned occupying Asian beauty salons would rather take an ass kicking in a dispute over prices with Asians rather than open their own nail and hair salons. I will never forget that video of those Asian workers beating a group of black women like they were slaves last year. Just disgusting, and yet our people continue to line up for more abuse.
I used to wear a towel over my head as a kid and pretend that I had Becky length hair too. That image complex phase was a mutha to have to go through as a kid.
So what? Your experience is not everybody else’s experience and different people can be affected by the trauma of racism in different ways. Oprah is not that many generations from slavery, she is from the era of when black people were still picking cotton to make a living. Now attempt to put yourself in the shoes of a 9 year old who is beyond dirt poor, constantly being told she is ugly all while being molested by family members, but then all around her she sees the privilege that white girls and women all around her are afforded based on the color of their skin. Coupled with the fact that she couldn’t turn on a TV and see examples of black women as journalists or models, or doctors or anything. So she tries to escape her own existence by imagining that she could be someone else, because it was just infathomable to even conceive that a black woman could ever be anything other than a mammy or a being with a body that men could abuse anytime they felt like it. That was her reality.
Oprah did the same thing with Iyanla Vanzant in an interview which I call Iyanla’s humiliation ritual interview where she had to humble herself before the woman God that is Oprah. And Iyanla asked Oprah to forgive her for being so hasty to run from Oprah’s grips to start her own show back by Barbara Walter’s and it failed miserably. I went to NY to attend a taping of her show at the time which it did seemed unorganized at the time. Oprah told Iyanla that she was forgiven but proceeded to laugh at Iyanla’s downfall. But degrading Iyanla paid off because she rebounded back in a big way via her own show on the OWN network among other business ventures.
This! I don’t hate white people but I resent their hypocrisy and how they can hide their shit behind their wealth and resources. But when it comes to black people are dirty laundry is put out into the world for the criticism and ridicule.
I think a lot of minorities subconsciously want to be white or fetishize whiteness. Our society brain washes us to believe that “white is right” without us even realizing it. I didn’t realize my own conditioning until I was in college. It’s something experienced commonly.
Yes. All of this. Well said.
poor Sofia….
? ? ?please don’t come for Oprah ? ? ? Wanting to be white, does not have to mean not wanting to be black; white people are grossly overmisrepresented when it comes to money and power, which is desirable to many (and even those with what is considered white skin). Now let’s talk about hair. Most Dogs and white people have similar hair. But you rarely if ever hear anyone say that they want hair like a dog because it stinks like hell when wet. When people say they want white people hair, what they typically want is the ease and convenience of it. ?
is she not white???
Will look out for that interview
Only time I wanted to be white was when I was younger and they big asses was getting pushed in strollers through the mall and I ain’t feel like walking to one more women’s shoe store but my mothers attitude was like keep or get left.
Yes!!! They are usually hiding their own. That’s why they pounce on others faults. But Blacks usually incriminate themselves and their race. That’s why other races disrespect us and put our business out there!!!
Yep yep yep!!
Thank you for doing your part.
She thought she was wyht until she walked into that purse store that time. I love me some Oprah though. This mj thing withstanding. We all make mistakes.
I get joy from giving back
Therein lies Joy…giving.
Still want to be white…
This is old tea. I remember that interview
Amen say it loud for the people in the back…If you dont acknowledge the problem you can’t solve it.
Oh wow!
If she held no bias then I could hear her but she’s wild stand offish if she’s dealing with a person of color and best friends with Harvey Weinstein.. nah bih I’ll pass on this coonery..
Oh she black??
I’m just going to assume she wanted to be white back then because whites wasn’t being mistreated like blacks were. I’m sure she wasn’t the only one who felt that way, just the only one with the balls to admit it….And I think she tread lightly with whites now and probably back then because she knew pissing off whites could end her career before it even began. Oprah never wanted to be loved by just blacks she wanted to go mainstream and loved by all, that’s how you get the real money bags. Whether she wants to be white now or not she played the game well. lol
My mother always made that comment about Oprah when I was a kid in the 90’s. In one breath she wanted me to contact Oprah for one thing or another, in the other breath she would criticize Oprah for doing so much for white folks (women specifically) and little for black folks. I still don’t know how to feel because Oprah has done more than she has to for everyone. Are we as black people never satisfied or do we have a point when it comes to Ms. Winfrey? I’m conflicted
Exactly its always been Indian hair that fools dream of having but white folks hair is stringy and dry in most cases. When color struck black men have babies by them the kids hair have come out nappy in some cases too.
LMAO! Well Steve Coon ass not far behind.
Don’t let the singer tarnish a beautiful song.
#TeamOprah
If okra could pull a handsome white male and had some mix children she would.
Don’t assume, being black in the Western World is one of the biggest challenges a negro has in his or her lifetime and lots of us give up and want to be associated with white people or a country name to try to hide but black don’t crack!
Michael Jackson fans giving Okra a beating in her comments section on IG. Michael fans not holding up they putting on the pressure.
I bet a lot of blacks have wanted to be white at some point. Not because being white best. Rather because of all their privileges. For instance, whites aren’t ridiculed with black face, their paid higher, never called the N-word or other racial epithets (not often at least) , given access to prestigious jobs, etc, etc. Who wouldn’t want that? But then you think about all the bad things that the white colonial settlers did, and think of which race is the only that’s ever dropped two nuclear bomb on civilians, and purposefully infected another race with syphilis in the Tuskeegee experiment, etc, etc. From that, you’d see that white is not better than black.
@Blunted25:disqus , I totally agree. However, there are some bare social standards. Crooked teeth, a crooked eye, things like that impact worth rightfully so.
all facts
agents
Michael Jordan wants to be white and doesn’t associate with black people
Michael Jordan wants to be white and doesn’t associate with black people
Exactly!
Exactly!
Her and Wendy Williams suffers from this self hatred of the skin they are in.
Her and Wendy Williams suffers from this self hatred of the skin they are in.
she had a fling/relationship with john tesh many years back…but he wasn’t buting the “swirl”
I’ve never wanted to be white. I have always wanted to be treated like them. Growing up in the late 70s black was so beautiful! We partied together, we grew up together, we moved up together, we were so unified. Now, we are all doing our on thing. Black is Beautiful ??
Oprah is gone. I don’t know what this is.
I recall Iyanla saying something like she didn’t think Oprah’s show would make it and high-tailed it to work with Barbara…the show failed! “She was on track to become one of Oprah’s proteges – like Dr. Phil or Nate Berkus – with her own show, but she parted ways.”
Oprah liked her a lot! She would leave the stage and give Iyanla the stage because she was that good and had never done that with anyone else before. Iyanla knew she messed up! It all worked out in the End!
EXACTLY!
and Steve C00n Harvey!!!!
I don’t think it’s that Black people want to be white per se, we just understand early on that white privilege is real.
Black is beautiful
Right… but we’re really here because of the recent interview she did, not because of this statement.
Say word! Me too
Sooo important
So did Fanny Lou Hamer and millions of other negroes
I never wanted to be white. But I do remember resenting them at a very early age.
Not every black person wants or has ever wanted to be white. Many maybe, but not all.
???
It’s crazy isn’t it. I never wanted to be them but I was like 7/8yrs old and hated them. My young mind couldn’t process what I was feeling. But now i know that i resented them so much because everything around me told me they were better – but in my young soul, I KNEW it was a lie but I couldn’t explain to myself or anyone else how I knew that.
Smh. I know many of us dealt with that. Shouldn’t no damn 3rd grader be dealing with that type of frustration and hardness of heart.
God bless your momma.
You know how many women have confided in me that it was their momma or grandma (not daddy, uncle or bf) that treated them like shat because of their darker hue??
Smh. It was usually the grandma.
I cut Oprah loose years ago.
Sad part is, they pick that ? up from the ADULTS.
I had an older cousin reveal to me when I was 22, that she nor her sisters could stand me when i was little.
Keep in mind, I was 5/6 and these heffas was 12, 14 and 17. She admitted it was because of my color, hair and the fact that my momma came from a prominent family.
But my father’s sisters couldn’t stand my biracial mother. They adopted their mothers’ resentment.
Stupid…cuz they azzes light skint too.
You’re kidding me?! Folks need their asses whooped!
Are you serious??
She looks a lot better black !God don’t make no mistakes .
No lie. Many of my darker skin sisters are walking around with internal wounds which they in turn take out, many times, on lighter skinned women.
NOT ALL. But many. And I know cuz they told me with their own mouths.
Oprah said in her interview with Iyanla at the time that she felt that she wasn’t ready for her own show despite her popularity and wanted her to wait. And Iyanla chucked the deuces shortly thereafter.
She looks like Wendy…Dave’s Wendy. Where’s the beef Wendy.
And Oprah was right and that’s why they’re working together now :o) Sometimes we want what we want (ain’t no stopping us now) and all the time it does not work out in the beginning! Love her show!
That’s so fawked up. I wish healing for them.
Yes to this, we are always throwing our own under this bus because of lack of a culture code.
Although many are just now coming around, when Mo’Nique and Sidney spoke on how Oprah did Mo’, it was a wrap for me. She’s in that big mansion in the most expensive area of the country (Montecito, CA) and probably miserable as hell.
Cmon, Player P, what would this blog be without people using it as a soapbox from time to time? Spice of life.
I tend to tune into Iyanla’s show as well. She used to invite white people on her show but now she’s gone excursively with black guests but as long as they’re being helped it’s all good because sometimes their stories are truly heartbreaking, especially with that recent family of siblings who were left in foster care and were abused.
This is many Black women growing up in the south, especially after segregation and jim crow
I couldn’t get through it…I think I was too young then too…maybe I need to revisit.
Sadly yes
Omg Coffee!! Get outta head! I was so conflicted about my feelings for white girls when I was a young girl.
Thank you kennedy220. Not all White people are the same, neither are Blacks. Some of the cruelest bullying I got as a kid was from Black girls cuz I “talked white”??. They wanted to jump on me because they said I thought I was better than them cuz I talked like a white girl.
Wow that’s nuts, but at least you had something tangible to be jealous of.
Ironically I was my mom’s only child and people assumed that I was spoiled, but my mom treated me as if I had committed some crime and she was just searching for a reason to justify her behavior. My mother hated me and avoided me because I reminded her of my father.
My mom and her family were low key colorist too although my mom isn’t light-skinned.
When I was a teenager I remember my mom telling me about this young black lady waited on her at some store’s cosmetic section. She said that the lady was dark-skinned BUT attractive. I was well DAMN so you’re not supposed to be attractive if you’re dark-skinned….ok!!
After my maternal grandmother passed I realized that she had serious inferiority issues because she was short and darker skinned than her cousins on her mother’s side of the family.
All of my relatives are nuts and that’s one big reason I moved out of state.
I almost regret reading ‘Mama Day’ ?
It’s Smelly asking you to do a post about black people who prefer to keep white people company. There was a NY school featured on the cover of the Daily News that had a white teacher hold a black slave auction singling out the black kids. I have a friend who told me so many of the black people whose kids go there were unbothered. They didn’t understand that white people will only let you go but so far. Oprah knows doing for white people is what gets you into their circle but if you don’t have anything to offer them then you’re just another n- -ga to them. They will use you up spit you out and tell themselves they are better than you.
You have white folks who do the same things. Oprah wouldn’t have her position if it weren’t for white folks. So what’s your point?
lol smh
Yes indeed.

Here’s the thing I wad conflicted with her too, but this interview did it for me. Paul Mooney said years ago Oprah was a double agent, Mo said about a year ago, these people have insight we don’t. Why isn’t she talking to her good friend Harvey about his case he’s alive and able to give account for his crimes, and why did she send women to him to become famous. I am no longer paying for OWN,with my cable provider all blacks should do the same she lost 43 mil the day after it aired.
I use to love me some Ms. O, not anymore
She dated Roger Ebert as well. He ended up marrying a different black woman.

I have thought for years that Oprah wants to be white. She kisses white people’s ass and hugs them like a good old mammy. The only exceptions i can think of are the Obamas and the Carters, Plus, she seldom stands up for causes that are beneficial to minorities. IMO, she’s an Auntie Thomasina.
Me neither. I’ve always loved our diverse appearance, our culture, our flava, our resiliency, etc. And, I, and most people I’ve discussed the issue with are proud to be black and wouldn’t trade their blackness for whiteness for anything. We just want want the privileges that come with being white.
Who doesn’t want to be white? They are the best!
You just got the STANKFOOT
