Celebrity moms Felicity Huffman, left, and Lori Loughlin, right, have tough choices to make. Each were offered plea deals by the federal government for their parts in a widespread college entrance cheating scam.
Loughlin, 54, and Huffman, 56, appeared in federal court in Boston, MA on April 3. Prosecutors offered both actresses deals that include prison time.
A crowd gathered as the actresses walked into court. Several young women taunted the actresses with homemade signs. One sign read: “LORI PLS PAY MY TUITION.”
Loughlin faces 37-46 months if she is found guilty, while Huffman could get 21-27 months in prison if convicted.
Loughlin’s fashion designer husband, Mossimo Giannulli, was also charged in the scam.
The stars are accused of paying a California man to help their children get into top colleges.
Huffman is charged with paying a SAT test proctor $15,000 to ensure that her daughter Sofia Macy got extra time to take her test.
Loughlin and Giannulli are accused of paying $500,000 to get their daughters Olivia Jade, 19, and Isabella, 20, into the University of Southern California (USC) by claiming they were members of the USC crew team, even though neither Jade or Isabella are athletes.
Friends say Loughlin is in denial and doesn’t believe she will spend a day behind bars. The source told Us Weekly Loughlin will take her chances at trial.
“She’ll go to trial before being separated from her family, and take those odds rather than just go to prison as part of a deal.”
