Condemned death row inmate Troy Davis is running out of time. Yesterday, just after 8 a.m., the 5 member Georgia Pardons and Parole board denied the 42-year-old’s petition for clemency.
It’s been 20 years since a jury convicted Davis of gunning down off-duty Savannah police officer Mark MacPhail who had rushed to help a homeless man being assaulted by Davis and an accomplice in 1989.
In all of those years it has never dawned on Davis or his attorneys to prove his innocence by taking a polygraph test — until yesterday.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Stephen Marsh, one of Davis’ lawyers said “Mr. Davis believes he is innocent and he wants to show it.”
But before he agrees to take the polygraph test, Davis wants some assurance from the parole board that it will take his test results into consideration, Marsh said.
“He’s not going to spend three hours away from his family on what could be the last day of his life if this does not make any difference,” said Marsh.
But wouldn’t it have made more sense for his attorneys to have gone before the parole board on Monday armed with a copy of a polygraph test that proved their client’s innocence?
Innocent men behave innocently. An innocent man would have turned himself in 22 years ago when he learned the police were looking for him in connection with the death of a police officer.
An innocent man would have demanded a polygraph test right away to prove he wasn’t the cop killer they were looking for.
It is doubtful that the Department of Corrections will approve Davis’ polygraph exam request at the 11th hour. Davis’ lawyers say they will show up at the state prison in Jackson with a polygraph examiner this morning anyway.
“Mr. Davis believes he is innocent and he wants to show it.”
Believes? Shouldn’t that be something you’re certain of?

HE HAS BEEN NAMED A COP KILLER… HE WONT GET OUT OF THIS
ITS TEXAS THEY AINT GOT NO MERCY
SPECIALLY WHEN ITS ONE OF THEY PEOPLE…
IT AINT TEXAS
BOY LET ME GO FINISH THIS HERE
Innocent men behave innocently.
I find it funny the head of the parole board is the same D.A. that convicted another “criminal” who was acquitted with DNA evidence after being locked up for 16 years.
America: Where you get the death penalty with no physical evidence or murder weapon but a cop kills and unarmed, restrained kid and gets fired…
Supposed to say:
America: Where you get the death penalty with no physical evidence or murder weapon but a cop kills and unarmed, restrained kid ON VIDEO and gets fired…
Morning everyone, I just stay in prayer for the family, both of them, these people need the love of the most high,
Que sera sera…
i signed a petition like 15 times to save him. smh, this is truly sad.
Predictably, Davis’ request to take a polygraph was just denied moments ago. He had 22 years to take that test
@SANDRA HE SOUNDS LIKE A GUILTY MAN TRYING TO GET HIS LAST LIL CHANCE.. HOW COME HE DINT REQ THE POLYU ALONG TIME AGO?? WHY TILL THE LAST MIN? ITS STILL SAD THIS IS A HUMAN NOT A DANG DOG THAT IS GETN PUT DOWN

Hey Jay Bee!
Do you live in GA?
They are going to execute him tonight…
I cry foul!!! The justice system is so screwed. Casey Anthony got a slap on the wrist for killing her kid, but people have recanted thier stories with Troy leaving reasonable doubt and he gets juiced… GA cops are known for skewing the facts in cases. They use threatening tactics to get you to say what they want you to hear.
I listened to the witness’ statements about recanting last night…
One guy said the police threatened to charge him with being an accessory to the murder if he didn’t implicate Troy.
Also 3 other witnesses came forward after the trial to say Red Coles was bragging about getting away with murder. SMH
May his family find some peace……don’t know how they’ll do that, BUT…….!
@ Jay Bee :
for him and his family.
I hope your right about Troy NOT being excuted tonight; I will continue to
Good Morning All!
renegadesince1985 Thank U so very much….my sentiments exactly. This whole situation stinks 2 high heaven….What have become of our NATION…..This is beyond atrocious. I think it’s time 4 a REVOLUTION…..A REVOLUTION THAT SHALL BE TELEVISED.
The officers son was on the news Monday. He wants to be there when Davis is executed. He was a newborn when his father was killed. I know this kid wants justice for his dad, but I don’t see it any other way but predjudice that the kid would want Davis to die knowing 7 ppl have recanted their story, along w/no physical evidence. The family can stop an excution. This kid is going to have to live w/this for the rest of his life,(if Davis is executed) if they later find evidence, or someone steps up and admits guilt. I would not doubt if this kid grew up hating all black ppl.
@ lakes
he didn’t do it boo.
I’m a honest criminal. Once I’m caught, I’m spilling it all. Has troy done that, or is he simply saying ‘i believe I’m innocent?’ I too am innocent of all things no one knows about, but doesn’t mean I didn’t do them.
I’m not sure what type closure putting him to death is to bring the family, even if he did admit to shooting the cop. But I’m tired of this story. I want to hear something along the lines of he wasn’t there, he was in another state the night this happened, here’s the proof. Simply saying I believe I’m innocent or I didn’t do it aint enough reasonable doubt. I dont care if Media Pal Al (Sharpton) has jumped on the band wagon.
I’on know about this one…innocent men have been known to fail the lie detector test and guilty men have been known to pass…
GM SR Family!
@ point
i never understood how people can get closure from death either. i thought it was just an American thing.
We got to do better about jumping on things cuz the media hype it up. This story has been going on for decades, now everybody wanna come aboard and have a say.
I’m not praying for anything. I get tired of criminals just saying “i’m innocent.” then wtf happend? just phuckin tell what happened. All this time in court, lawyers playing tommy sticks in court to lay out bs cases, when one side clearly knows what has happened or the part his client played. And the person sits in court, not testifying of course (casey), as the other team tries mercilessly to prove YOU DID IT. wtf happened, just say it.
In a perfect world, I know.
lie detector test–is he sure he wants to do that? he’ll be so nervous and emotions outta wack that the reading would have to be off, reading “liar” of course.

Troy Davis is a d*mn murderer. The day prior he’d shot someone else in the face. This piece if sh*t was going to kill someone eventually either way. People can sign all of the petitions they want. They are still going to juice his a** up at 7pm. It’s not real for some people until some fool senselessly murders THEIR mom, dad or child. This man is no Medgar Evers or Emmitt Till. Knee Grows need to find a REAL cause.
Never want to understand how you can mercilessly take someone else’s life (not to mention brutally assaulting a homeless person to boot) then plead for your life? GOD created the death penalty (the wages of sin is death) so I am a strong supporter of the death penalty. It is not meant to deter me or anyone else from committing a crime. Rather, it is meant to stop that person from ever committing a crime of such heinous nature again. Time for him to take his dirt nap and begin pushing up daisies. The manner that he chose to live his life resulted in this day of earthly judgment. Rather than trying to save his life that is already lost, he needs to focus on making peace with The Creator. He will stand before The Divine Creator in a few hours so he really needs to stop focusing on this futile battle to save his life. Time to pay the piper…build a bridge and get over it!
Smh…well all I can say if later on some sort of evidence is produced and confirms his innocence then there is a lot of blood on a lot of people’s hands. I’m not going to debate his innocence or guilt, but seems like people are always out for blood and use the most high profile cases to attempt to prove a point. Funny thing is there was no gun, the witnesses have recanted, yet its make sure he frys. Yet Ms. Casey Anthony and the likes of her with all the circumstantial, real evidence they had for her guilt walks free. Oh how I love America and our justice system. What a joke.
@Ms. Sandra, a innocent man never gives up!

Sociopaths like Davis are known to pass lie detector tests because the machine reads human emotions and feelings to detect dishonesty. But sociopaths like Davis have no emotions or feelings, so they can beat the machine
The homeless man was interviewed in 2007, he said he didn’t know who was beating him up.
@TPtotalpackage:
I so agree…Black people need to find a cause. We act like a bunch of river monkeys if a White cops kills a Black man…but we never seem to get outraged at the Black on Black male holocaust! It is sad when Black people sound more like Uncle Ruckus (i. e. being the antithesis of everything they claim to stand for) than they do Dr. Bill Cosby (who gave us the truth straight with no chaser)! Ugh! Sick of it!

Absolutely. I’m a death penalty advocate also. It is the ultimate punishment for man’s sins. If you don’t want to be executed, don’t do the crime.

Troy Davis had 22 years to prove his innocence. He had 22 years to produce that evidence you speak of. His lawyers went before the parole board on Monday with no new evidence. Why didn’t they give him a polygraph before the clemency hearing? The man is guilty and his execution is just and proper punishment for his crime.
According to the AJC, a GBI expert testified at his trial, saying there were enough similarities between shell casings found at the scene of MacPhail’s murder and shell casings found at the scene of another shooting Davis committed earlier that day. But no one talks about the other shooting he committed that day. Thankfully he was caught or other innocent people would be dead.
Until recently I was a supporter of the death penalty actually I wish they’d use it for more crimes such as child rape. But when it’s this much doubt I can’t justify it, look the man up for life. If he’s locked up for life we wouldn’t have to worry about him committing another crime anyway.
I am not for the death penalty. However, I believe if you put a man to death you better be sure that he committed the crime. There should be no doubt that he is guilty of the crime in question. I’m torn in this case, I do not believe he is innocent. However, I don’t know if the evedience that he was convicted of (a Death sentence), was appropriate with the evidence that they had. There is doubt and for that he should not be put to death.
I don’t what to think. I think there are some holes in this story. We tend to hop on things because our favorite celebrity does without knowing all the facts. That can be both good and bad. I hope regardless of the outcome OUR people start taking a more active role in OUR community. Maybe celebrities should tweet about being mentors so they can prevent another Troy Davis.

I totally agree with you
When it comes to the death penalty there should be no doubt whatsoever that a person did the crime…Lock him up for life for being an accessory…if the dude that was with him really did it, he will recieve the ultiment judgement from above….I feel bad for the cops famaily….they can never recieve closure from this.

Perhaps the closure that the family needs is for this psycho monster to accept responsibilities for his actions, sincerely apologize to the family for destroying their lives, and accept that the punishment for his crime is just and reasonable. To make this family go through FOUR EXECUTION DATES is not giving them closure. The family deserves the right to see this monster take his last breath here on Earth. He will die humanely and that makes this sentence fair and just. What is cruel and unusual are all of the appeals and getting his hopes up that maybe, just maybe, his life will be spared. Rest assured that at 7:08 pm EST we will receive word that he was pronounced dead.
Well Ms. Sandy…there have been plenty of cases where new information has been brought forth which for whatever reason wasn’t allowed into court or even considered in these decisions made by clemency boards. Whether you think its right or wrong if all these witnesses have recanted there is something to that. Point. Blank. Period. Witnesses don’t recant unless there is a reason to. Period. So either way it goes I do not believe this is being seen fairly. People are so quick to jump on bandwagons regardless to what may or may not be going on. People are still being released from death row, or being proven after the fact as being innocent. When there is so much doubt how is it ok to still put someone to death?
Everyone is all for an eye for an eye..but it is God who exacts the final revenge and has the final say. Regardless.
This is so sad! This man should not be put to death. And the family of the victim just want to see a black man be put to death. They don’t care about guilt or innocence. As someone else stated, the son of the victim was a infant when his father was killed, but he is certain that Davis is guilty and should be killed. The mother has gotten her 15 minutes as well. She has been on the news more than a little bit in the last week. I didn’t see her this much the last time the Supreme Court stayed his execution…and yes I was following the story then to. She claims she doesn’t want vengence in Davis’ death, just justice. How can there be justice when there is still doubt? She’s a lying cow. Im sorry. I dont care if she is positive about his guilt, her intentions are not pure and I can see through her. She wants blood. If Mr. Davis would have been a white man, I guarantee she and the rest of her family wouldn’t be rallying so hard for this man’s death.
This is justice in America. Why not give him life without the possiblity of parole? Why cant the family find closure in that? A white Texas man, cleve foster, who raped and killed a woman was saved by the U.S. Supreme court not to long ago. Why is Troy Davis being killed and there is still some doubt? He will probably be killed this evening, and things will continue to be F-d up in the justice system. And people (especially blacks) who are all for him getting killed will stay on the band wagon until something like this unfairly happens to their family member. It will continue to happen-Injustices.
You know what I prayed on this last night and even asked GOD if he was innocent – I just don’t think GOD would let an innocent MAN face the death penalty if he was truly innocent – Im sorry to say but I don’t think he is innocent!
Crimes & Sins
Crimes & Sins
What is the difference between Crimes & Sins?
Are all Sins crimes, or are all Crimes sin?
THERE ARE MORE SINS THAN CRIMES.
Crimes like, robbery, rape, murder ARE STILL SINS and are punishable by law & God
Sins that are crimes against the soul and God like adultery, fornication, homosexuality, false prophecy, idol worship are punishable by God….in the lake of fire!
Use this troy davis story to think about all the years that God has given YOU to change YOUR SINFUL WAYS….
You know what I prayed on this last night and even asked GOD if he was innocent – I just don’t think GOD would let an innocent MAN face the death penalty if he was truly innocent – Im sorry to say but I don’t think he is innocent!
Several men have be found innocent after being put to death…most recently in Texas, a man was executed because the court denied his request for DNA tests. They did it after he died and the DNA didn’t match.
Sandra keeps bringing up another shooting…what he charged with it?? The victim that was shot in the face (yes he lived) even said he didn’t think Davis was the one that did it. So miss me with that bullshyt.

No I don’t..same as I don’t believe God has a hand in whether Troy Davis is put to death or not. We were all born with free will and that free will is what is being used to put Troy to death. Trust me, I barely watch the news anymore because its always something on there that makes me shudder.
whether he did it or not, now is the time to make peace with God that he may enter into the kingdom of God.
He still has a chance because of the Love that God has for ISRAEL. Not ESAU. ISRAEL.

Well isn’t that interesting..he would know first hand wouldn’t he? Smh..its not innocent until proven guilty…its always guilty until proven innocent..unless it involves money or power especially if it is a racially involved or political case which both of these are. So in the words of renegade…miss me with the bullshyt.
And just like renegade said innocent people have been put to death and spent many years behind bars for crimes they haven’t committed so with that being said if there is doubt there is doubt. It’ll be real flucked up if it comes out later Troy Davis was innocent. Smmfh.
@ Redeemed True that and I’m quite sure he has already made his peace with God and what his fate is, but that does not stop him from having hope.
This man has no hope…he is scared to pay for his Earthly crime and scared to face his eternal judgment. He who showed no mercy now begs for mercy?
Remember, when the Bible speaks of unrighteous judgment (the judge not lest you be judge that hippocrites tend to take out of context) it means that you are not to judge from a hippocritical frame of mind. You are not to condemn a person for their actions and you are engaged in those same action. eddie schlong judged and condemned homosexuals ALL THE WHILE HE WAS ENGAGING IN HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR AND ACTS! troy is a hippocrite because he is begging for mercy all the while he never showed mercy to at least three people in one day (the person he shot in the face, the homeless guy, and the cop). He meted out a judgement of death and now he will reap the seeds of death he sowed his entire life.
BLACK PEOPLE…READ AND UNDERSTAND THE BIBLE AND TAKE YOUR EMOTIONS OUT OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ppl stay on deat row over 20 yrs before being executed. They always say it’s costly to execute someone. Is it because they get to live on death row for 20+ yrs, on tax payer dollars?
The system is set up that way because it allows the individual to be granted appeals, etc. The sentence is not carried out hastily (like in 30 days or less in third world countries) and that is the beauty of the Judicial system in America. troy had 22 years post-trial to prove his innocence and to this very hour all he has going for himself is the support of bleeding heart liberals who refuse to acknowledge that this person is a danger to society and himself. Housing him to live out the remainder of his life would be giving into his fears. He needs to pay for his egregious acts and as a taxpayer I will not complain.

You can open a whole can of words with this statement. What about innocent people killed minding their business, people walking their kids from the deli, etc. heard it all….
Fact is, our justice system says, guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Casey Anthony….most of us think she did it, but fact is, there was reasonable doubt. In this case….to take a line from casey anthony’s attorney, “reasonable doubt lives here”. I don’t know if he’s innocent or not…i rather say I don’t know…..
We don’t have the death penalty here in nyc, but just in our paper yesterday was article about a man, doing life llikely for a murder he didn’t commit. There is ample evidence that shows that he was even in the car, all the witness who implicated him in the car said the prosecutor pressured them into sayin he was the shooter, one even said that in his original statement to police, he told them, the guy was even in the car, the officers didn’t file that away. would god let a innocent man sit in prison for crimes they didn’t do? Happens all the time.
What people fail to realize is that troy is not asking to get out of prison. Rather, he wants his life spared. He is willing to serve a life sentence…he just do not want to be put to death. If he is so innocent, why is he not fighting for his freedom?
I don’t believe in the death penalty since the punishment is not given for all who commit the same crime. If you have money you have the advantage of good lawyers. I don’t know all the facts in this case but if there is any doubt to his guilt, then this execution should be stopped!
