Barack Hussein Obama is fully aware that if he doesn’t get a health care reform bill passed, he will suffer the biggest defeat of his young presidency.
To that end, Obama is considering overhauling his health care demands in a new speech as early as next week. In his speech Obama is expected to omit the public option provision from his health care reform bill.
“We have been saying all along that the most important part of this debate is not the public option, but rather ensuring choice and competition,” an aide said. “There are lots of different ways to get there.” Read more…
Of course, Obama is reacting (finally) to the intense pressure put to bear on his administration and Dems by fervent protestors at town hall meetings in the past six weeks.
Obama’s decision to omit the controversial public option from his health care plan will anger his loyal supporters and those on the far left who expect government handouts. To them, Obama will be seen as a spineless puppet, a mouthpiece with no backbone who can’t stand up under the pressure.
Obama’s senior adviser David Axelrod contends that Obama’s goal is still “to create the best possible situation for consumers, create competition and choice,” and to provide a “sense of security” to those who have insurance and don’t want to drop their insurance for a public plan that all Americans will end up paying through their teeth for.
