The world is expressing shock and surprise at the news that Barack Obama has won a Nobel Peace Prize. It seems the Nobel Prize has become as cheap and meaningless as a MTV Moon Man trophy: they’re giving them out to just anyone now.

The Times Online called the Nobel decision “absurd” and said it “makes a mockery of the Nobel peace prize.”

Instead the prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronizing in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace.

According to ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos, one White House aide scoffed at the news, saying “It’s not April 1, is it?”

The deadline for submitting candidates for a peace prize is February 1st. Meaning Barack Obama was nominated just 11 days after being in office. Ridiculous!
