‘The Hunger Games’ is not in theaters until Friday, but Lionsgate’s latest theatrical release is already breaking records. Pre-sales of tickets for ‘The Hunger Games’ have topped $80 million. Over 2,000 shows (of 4,000 screens) are sold out across the country. That means you might not get to see Lenny Kravitz flex his bare chest in theaters on Friday unless you already have a ticket in hand.
‘The Hunger Games,’ starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson and Lenny Kravitz, is based on the best-selling book by Suzanne Collins. In the film, a dystopian society in the not-so-distant future takes today’s reality TV concept a step further by pitting cast members (white and black) in a deadly televised competition.
Unlike the water-tossing, wig-snatching, scripted scenes you see in today’s reality shows, the competitors in ‘The Hunger Games’ must kill or be killed.
