HOT 97 (NY) listeners flooded the station with angry calls the day after President Barack Obama endorsed same-sex marriage. A majority of the listeners agreed that Obama’s opinion was clearly politically motivated, and intended to score points with the gay community.
A rumor is going around that Obama met with influential and powerful gay donors at the home of actor George Clooney, where Obama received millions in donations and a promise to deliver gay votes if Obama endorsed same-sex marriage.
Mr. Obama has consistently said he agreed with gay unions, but not same-sex marriage.
According to Fox News, callers to the popular urban station expressed disappointment in Obama, with some saying the president lost their votes.
But if Mr. Obama is concerned that he will lose black voters, he’s not showing it. One of the first ministers he reached out to on Thursday was the head of a large, non-black, conservative church.
Mr. Obama and his advisors are hoping he will garner enough gay votes to offset the number of black voters who stay home in November.
Boxer Manny Pacquaio was forced to cancel an appearance at The Grove in LA today after he came under fire for anti-gay statements attributed to him that he did not make.
According to TMZ.com, The Examiner article included a reference to Leviticus 20:13, which says gays “must be put to death.”
But Manny blamed the media for twisting his words. “I didn’t say that, that’s a lie,” said Manny in a statement released today. “I didn’t know that quote from Leviticus because I haven’t read the Book of Leviticus yet,” he added.
Manny maintained his stance that he doesn’t agree with gay marriage. “God’s words first… obey God’s law first before considering the laws of man,” he told the Examiner. “It should not be of the same sex so as to adulterate the altar of matrimony, like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah of Old.”
