Isaiah Washington publicly switched political parties after decades of registering as a Democrat. The 56-year-old actor explained why he abandoned the Democratic Party and doesn’t care if you cancel him.
The Grey’s Anatomy actor says he’s joined the “Walkaway movement,” a movement dedicated to helping Black people leave the Democratic plantation.
He explained his newfound political affiliation in an interview with Fox Nation’s “Nuff Said with Tyrus”.
Washington said he decided to leave the plantation because Democrats aren’t doing enough for Black people.
“Walking away is a sacrifice,” Washington said. “There’s a risk and there’s a penalty for it, but you have to walk away when it matters … and the reason I chose to walk away from the Democratic party … is that something doesn’t feel right.”
Later, Washington took to Twitter.com to defend his decision.
“Judging by a certain demographic on social media, you’d swear my last interview on @foxnation was declaring that EVERYONE #WalkAway from @PopeyesChicken chicken sandwiches FOREVER,” he joked.
He added: “The ‘Cancel Culture’ is self-defeating. I mean, if I’ve been ‘Cancelled’ more than 4 times, doesn’t logic dictate that I was never ‘Cancelled’ at all? I mean, why keep letting me know that I’m ‘Cancelled’, if you ‘Cancelled’ me 4 times ago? Please look up the word ‘indifference.'”
He continued: “I dated a woman that was addicted to crack. I became addicted to trying to save her. She stole from me and disappeared for days, worrying me to death. I really loved her and when I tried to reason with her to get her help, she refused, berated & attacked me much like Black [Democrats].”

These are the people who hear and decide on civil rights cases and matters. They can easily roll back protections for minorities and usher in a new Jim Crow-like era. This is why our ancestors fought so hard for the right to vote. Because they knew that civil rights are not a guarantee, but something that needs to be maintained.

I appreciate the response but there was also low unemployment during the Clinton and Obama years. As for federal recognition of HBCUs, that seemed a little vague (at least to me) so when I tried to find how the republican party has helped them I came up empty (granted, was just a few minutes of research online but I’m not going to page 20 of the search results tonight. I DID come across this from February of this year regarding my home state:

Sometimes voting is about choosing the lesser of two evils. If you don’t vote, you’ll still inadvertently be endorsing one candidate or the other. In situations like this, I just choose to use my vote on the candidate who aligns more with what matters to me. The more like minded people who vote, the more those people can be heard in future elections. That’s why the NRA is so powerful. THEY VOTE. There literally is no sweat off my back to cast a vote.
