The Miami Dolphins waived running back Mark Walton following his arrest early Tuesday for hitting a pregnant woman.
According to a police report obtained by ESPN, Walton is accused of pushing the woman into a wall and punching her in her face and head.
The woman is reportedly five weeks pregnant with Walton’s baby, according to ESPN.
Walton, a 22-year-old Miami native, led the Dolphins with 201 rushing yards on a 3.8 yards-per-carry average and 15 receptions for 89 yards this season. But he couldn’t overcome his off-field troubles.
Walton was 2 games into a four-game league suspension for violating the NFL conduct and substance abuse policies related to two arrests during the off season earlier this year.
Walton accepted a plea deal for his most serious felony offense for carrying a concealed weapon during his March arrest after a police chase.
The plea deal reduced his charge to a second-degree misdemeanor open-carry. He was released by the Cincinnati Bengals after those arrests, but the Dolphins gave him another chance by signing him in May, according to ESPN.
The Dolphins released a statement after Walton’s dismissal on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
“We hold our players to a high standard and take these matters very seriously. We will have no further comment at this time,” general manager Chris Grier said in a statement.
