An Indiana man went on a rampage, killing four people — including a child — after an argument over a $1,400 stimulus check went horribly wrong.
Indianapolis police say Malik Halfacre, 25, fatally shot four people inside a home at 338 N. Randolph Street on Saturday, March 13.
Police were dispatched to investigate a report of a shooting at a residence at 253 Randolph Street just after 9:35 p.m. They found an adult female, Jeanettrius Moore, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to Eskananzi hospital in critical condition.
Information gathered at the scene led police to the residence at 338 Randolph Street, where officers found Moore’s 7-year-old daughter, Eve Moore, 23-year-old Daquan Moore, Anthony Johnson, 35, and 44-year-old Tomeeka Brown.
Relatives identified the adult victims as Moore’s mother, brother, and a cousin.
All four were pronounced dead from gunshot wounds. A six-month-old child who was missing from the home was later found safe.
Relatives told WXIN that Halfacre argued with Moore and demanded half of her $1,400 stimulus check.
“He wanted some of Jeanettrius’ tax money, stimulus money,” cousin Wendy Johnson told the station. “She said, No, you don’t deserve any of this. I work. I take care of our child. You don’t do anything.”
She said Moore offered Halfacre $450, telling him “take it or leave it.”
Moore reportedly told a neighbor that Halfacre shot her and killed her family over her stimulus money, according to WISH.
On Sunday, March 15, a tip from the public led police to Halfacre’s hiding place in an attic at a residence on the 6200 block of Eastridge.
After several hours of negotiations, a SWAT team made entry into the residence and apprehended Halfacre.
He is being held without bail on preliminary charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery, abduction of a minor child, and other charges, according to the Marion County Prosecutors Office.
