Earlier today, U.S. president Barack Obama briefed the media on the efforts to get aid into Haiti in a live press conference about an hour ago.
He pledged to send humanitarian aid to Haiti and said his thoughts and prayers were with the people of Haiti and their families stateside.
An earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale hit Port-au-Price, Haiti just after 5 p.m. Eastern time yesterday.
Thousands of buildings were leveled including hospitals, schools, and the Haitian palace as well as the UN building lay in ruins. Hundreds of thousands are feared dead in Port-au-Price which has a population of 2 million.
The U.S. in conjunction with other countries are sending multi-agency assistance to Haiti to provide disaster relief with an “aggressive focus on saving lives.” The Coast guard will arrive in Haiti later today to set up offshore floating medical hospitals.
Donations can be sent to Haitian native Wyclef Jean’s organization in $5 increments by texting YELE to 501501 on your cell phone. $5 will be added to your phone bill. You can make up to 6 donations via your cell phone.
To donate more money to the relief efforts in Haiti, visit www.yele.org.
That is a devastating thought that the number of dead could be so high. This is heart wrenching.

Hopefully that brings clairity to soooo many families worried about their loved ones in Haiti..
Very sad but glad that the US is stepping up and helping Haiti!!
When I read the $100,000 figure earlier, my heart dropped. This is so horrible. I pray for everyone afflicted.
My heart hurts for everyone affected….
I just saw some pics….oh lord
wow….makes you think about 9/11….except there is no one to point the blame at………work is being done naturally, please take heed to the power of GOD.
Lawd…..I guess I won’t get to see my children graduate huh? Its just not going to happen.
This is so sad and heartbreaking. Everywhere I go I will be pushing for people to send what they can. (work, church, social groups).
My law school classmate NY Attorney Jean Welsh is from Haiti. I pray that his family is okay.
taken from twitter “our American $5 would equal Haiti’s $35. so $5 from a million people amounts to 35 million dollars for Haiti. Donate, Donate Donate”
@krysi j.. I had that same thought earlier. The end is near.
Thanks Sandra for posting this on the main site! I’m spreading the word everywhere. Let’s give as much as we can. The lord will bless you for paying it forward =)
if you got facebook or myspace spread the number and website so people will know where to donate
i hope ALL countries help(not just US who always gives hundreds of millions away but cant clean up the 9/11 site, and the hurricane katrina site)

Michelle and Barack Obama are such a beautiful and inspiring couple….Love them….
As a woman from New Orleans….no there’s no connection other than we both had a disater where we live.People from new orleans are not refugees….its somewhat insulting…are you referring to voodoo as specific things….

The Haitian Revolution of 1804 established the second republic in the Western Hemisphere and the first led by blacks. Haitian refugees, both white and free people of color (affranchis or gens de couleur libres), arrived in New Orleans, often bringing slaves with them. While Governor Claiborne and other officials wanted to keep out more free black men, French Creoles wanted to increase the French-speaking population. As more refugees were allowed in Louisiana, Haitian émigrés who had gone to Cuba also arrived. Nearly 90 percent of the new immigrants settled in New Orleans. The 1809 migration brought 2,731 whites; 3,102 free persons of African descent; and 3,226 enslaved refugees to the city, doubling its French-speaking population.[14]
Louisiana Voodoo, also known as New Orleans Voodoo, describes a set of underground religious practices which originated from the traditions of the African diaspora. It is a cultural form of the Voodoo religions which historically developed within the French, Spanish, and Creole speaking African-American population of the U.S. state of Louisiana. It is one of many incarnations of African-based religions rooted in the West African Dahomean Vodou tradition and the Central African traditions. They became syncretized with the Catholic religion and Francophone culture of South Louisiana as a result of the slave trade. Louisiana Voodoo is often confused with – but is not completely separable from – Haitian Vodou and southeastern U.S. hoodoo. It differs from Haitian Vodou in its emphasis upon Gris-gris, voodoo queens, use of “Hoodoo” occult paraphernalia and Li Grand Zombi (snake deity). This emphasis has marked the culture of Afro Diaspora, francophone Louisiana within the Western media. It was through Louisiana Voodoo that such terms as gris-gris (a Wolof term) and voodoo dolls were introduced into the American lexicon.
generational curse is right. those invited demons are being casted OUT!
I love Michelle’s look too!!!
Prayers going out to everyone…
you did your research…..
I did hear haiti was evil with the voodoo and all….i heard it from a friend who is from the domincan republic. She says that in haiti there aren’t many trees or any greenery on their land. She says its because their voodoo practices are evil and when you cross over to dominican republic there’s tree’s and lots of green on the land …interesting point…here in new orleans…voodoo is hush hush but madame ami lives right down the way and if you want to hurt that bastard that hurt you…..go to her……ish!

but don’t yall have a New Orleans voodoo museum?
@ kryst j thanks! that’s what i was saying in the other post. not trying to be offensive. i think all our families and ancestors are plagued. Even the african american race. My families curse is alcoholism and depression. I aint shamed and don’t sugar coat anything. this great nation is plagued as well. I DON’T THINK THEY DESERVED IT BUT IT WAS THE HAND OF GOD. That is what I thought of when I saw the presidential house crumbled. However, our prayers are still sustaining those in need.anyway, I aint trying to offend anyone just expressing opinion. everything we do in the physical realm has consequences/effects in the spiritual realm. I LEARNED THAT MYSELF THE HARD WAY. Aint no angel but thank God he had mercy on my soul and I have been saved by his grace and mercy
Sending my :prayers: to the nation and those right here at home w/family. no one deserves this! I’m sure something is coming our way as well as a country.

yea I definitely don’t think anyone deserved any of it, its just like you say generational curses effect us all….just like the END of this earth is near due to what everyone ELSE had done , we contributed sure, but it all started a LONG time ago. There is no way my 28 years on this planet can do anything to reverse that…..you only have the choice to live your life in a different manner, or play your part in making things worse….cause nothing is going to get better….its just too late
“time is running out”
but I prayed for them too….just like I said yesterday, you can’t blame people for living the only way they know how…and if its apart of your culture how can you view any of it as bad??? Thats like somebody telling me The University of Florida was built on racisim and I shouldn’t be a fan of the gators…
but thats all I know I can’t imagine not being a fan of the gators no matter what they were built on
Lord take care of the people in Haiti and I am glad that President Obama is acting NOW instead of days later.
Pray for our fellow human beings, donate donate donate.
