Odalis Santos Mena, an Instagram fitness influencer, died during a botched operation to treat excessive underarm sweating.
Odalis, 23, was a popular Instagram influencer with 149,000 followers. She traveled to Guadalajara on July 7 to undergo the “breakthrough” antiperspirant treatment called MiraDry.
The procedure was performed at the SkinPiel clinic by an unlicensed practitioner. The procedure involves using high heat energy to remove sweat glands.
Odalis teamed with the clinic to promote MiraDry. But the procedure went wrong when Odalis suffered a heart attack and died on the table.
According to reports, Odalis suffered a reaction to the anesthesia and anabolic steroids she was taking to build muscle.
Odalis is best known for winning the 2019 Miss and Mr. Hercules title. She also won the Wellness Fitness Juvenile competition.
