The City of Atlanta stepped up foot patrols inside Piedmont Park after a woman and her dog were stabbed and dismembered overnight Wednesday.
Katherine Janness, 40, was found stabbed and dismembered near the Charles Allen entrance to Piedmont Park after 1 a.m. Wednesday. Her pitbull Bowie was lying dead beside her.
Janness worked as a bartender for Campagnolo restaurant in Midtown Atlanta. She had just finished dinner at home and was walking her dog when she was brutally attacked.
Janness’ lesbian partner pinged her phone and located her spouse’s body inside the park.
Police are trying to determine if Janness’ murder was random or targeted because the killer spent time with her body after she died.
Police are asking residents who live on 10th Street near the park to check their security videos.
Police aren’t ruling out a serial killer after the remains of two bodies were found behind a shopping center in Henry County earlier this month.
Henry County police say the remains belong to two different people. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is trying to identify the remains that were found in a wooded area behind a shopping center in Stockbridge, Georgia on July 7.
A $10,000 reward is being offered by Atlanta Crime Stoppers for information on the case.
